So that’s university done and dusted. What next?
With our finance graduate programme, you’ll get immediate hands-on experience of the insurance world, doing real and useful work from the day you join us.
You’ll receive excellent on-the-job training from our highly respected and experienced finance professionals, together with a structured learning programme designed to develop your skills essential for your future career, such as leadership and delivering coherent, concise and compelling presentations. You’ll also get a study package and full financial support to become a qualified Chartered Accountant through the ICAEW (The Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales).
Is it for me?
Are you curious, eager to learn and try new things? Are you comfortable working with numbers? Can you combine your strong analytical skills with an ability to communicate effectively with a diverse range of individuals? If you’re answering yes to these questions, our graduate programme is for you.
Tell me more!
You’ll join us on a rotational programme, giving you exposure to the breadth of activity that take place across the Finance function. Your graduate scheme experience includes rotations in two fundamental areas of Finance; Financial Reporting and Control (recording the actual performance of our business and how we report these results to key stakeholders including our leadership teams, investors and regulators) and Financial Planning and Analysis (partnering a business unit and translating their future business plans into financial forecasts).
You’ll spend time working with Internal Audit – the team that provides independent and objective assurance and advice to the Group Audit Committee and the Board over the processes and systems of control and risk management operating in the Group.
Your final rotations can be influenced by you, depending on the other areas of Finance that you’re interested in and where you’d like to gain more experience. For example, you could spend 6 months in Investor Relations or Investments, or undertake two 3 month rotations in areas such as Finance Operations, Tax, Treasury or Reinsurance. We’re large enough to offer you lots of opportunity for learning, but small enough to tailor your graduate experience to your individual interests.
To be successful, you’ll have a clear interest in finance, be confident working with numbers and have the ability to convey information to a range of audiences. You’ll to be able to think critically to identify areas of improvement and change. But it’s not just about the numbers – you’ll be curious to learn and see the bigger picture.
Your desire to work and collaborate with others will key to you developing strong working relationship across our business – but you’ll also have the courage to ask questions and challenge the status quo.
You will join us in either our Group Finance or our London Market Finance functions. Whichever area of the business you join, your experience on the scheme will equip you with the skills, credibility and understanding to become a well-rounded finance professional, preparing you for a number of different roles in the field. Your rotations will also help you decide how you want to progress your career within Finance after the graduate programme.
What qualifications do I need?
You’ll have achieved (or be expecting to achieve) at least a 2:1 honours degree in the UK (or international equivalent). We’re flexible on degree discipline, but you need to be comfortable with numbers. So if you haven’t done a degree that involves numbers, you’ll have A Level Maths instead.
Any other requirements?
You’ll be able to speak and write fluently in business English, be numerate, and demonstrate strong interpersonal skills.
The successful candidate must, by the start of the employment, have permission to work in the UK. You’ll be able to join the scheme in September 2023.
How do I apply?
The closing date for applications is Friday 30th December 2022, although opportunities may close early if we receive a high volume of applicants – therefore please apply as soon as possible.
