The Group Underwriting Business Management team supports the Group Chief Underwriting Officer by collaborating with key stakeholders to deliver the Group underwriting strategy and Underwriting performance. They are responsible for driving greater rigour, analysis and oversight of Hiscox Group underwriting portfolio, to help inform and deliver the Group CUO strategic agenda, working very closely with the Group Underwriting Risk & Reinsurance team, and the Business Units CUO’s & underwriting management teams.
The Role
In this role you'll be a key member of a team that supports the Group Chief Underwriting Officer in ensuring the delivery of Hiscox underwriting performance. You will help deliver the Group underwriting MI to enable Group portfolio management and constant course correction to hit our business plans. The role has a key business partnering aspect with relevant business units in respect of underwriting, claims and finance so the ability to communicate effectively is pretty important.
Main Responsibilities
- Produce regular reports & ad hoc reports
- Produce requested analysis and data validation
- Assist and provide support in the Group loss ratio business planning process to ensure delivery of annual plan
- Liaise with other functions including BU MI teams, Finance to improve data quality
- Provide challenge to data and deep dives on data issues with BU’s
- Assist with strategic priorities involving data and MI
Person Specification
- 2.1 or Higher Degree in a Data heavy subject like Data Science, Actuarial, Maths, Physics, Economics
- Experience developing and interpreting large quantities of data or risk management or analytics
- Experience or understanding of Insurance is an ideal
- Good communicator and influencer – able to communicate proposals clearly and then take forward actions to get things done, on time, across various teams
- Strong attention to detail – tenacity to focus on the detail when it’s required and pull out the “so whats” to drive actions
- Intermediate to advance Excel, R ,VBA capabilities, additional experience with Tableau and Power BI is a plus
