Our lawyers are known for being practical, commercial and relationship-driven. They’ve made us a true business partner to our clients while building our reputation as a bold, distinctive law firm. Our two-year training contract will help you develop the same set of skills.

Since opening the Birmingham office in 2015, we’ve built a consistently profitable and strong legal capability, working in corporate, litigation, construction, real estate, real estate finance and asset finance. As a  trainee here, you’ll get exposure to all sorts of interesting legal challenges and plenty of high-profile projects, led by some of the most talented lawyers around.

Our Birmingham office

With its modern look and feel, our new office space on the eighth floor of the Colmore Building boasts the latest technology, plus more open spaces for collaborative working and for clients to work alongside us.

“Our new workspace in Birmingham acts as a significant draw for our clients and our people as Hogan Lovells expands in a vibrant and confident market. Proud to be a part of the Birmingham community, we’re investing in and supporting the city, both by providing credible and attractive career opportunities and through our citizenship and pro-bono activities."

Our practice groups

Corporate

We advise on a broad range of corporate and commercial transactions, such as: mergers and acquisitions, private equity and secondary fund transactions, and complex commercial contracts including cross-border matters. Who for? Owner managers, listed and privately owned corporates, pension funds and other institutional investors.

Litigation

Integrated with the London Litigation team, we regularly work side by side with the London-based Global Products Law practice to advise global technology companies and manufacturing giants on product litigation and regulatory matters relating to all stages of the product life cycle.

Real Estate

One of the largest groups in our Birmingham office, we take on all kinds of legal projects – from advising on investment acquisitions and development transactions to real estate related disputes such as contentious landlord and tenant matters. It’s all part of providing a well-rounded service to investors and funds, as well as developers and significant corporate occupiers.

A quick, enquiring mind is a given. We'll look for a strong academic record that features excellent results from GCSE (or equivalent) onwards. That includes a good 2:1 or above (or equivalent).

Commercial acumenCommercial acumen

Clients want to work with us because we understand their worlds as well as we understand the law. You'll have the potential to talk their language.

An international outlookAn international outlook

An interconnected world calls for outward-looking people. You'll adapt easily to new surroundings, respond to cultural nuances and tackle the unpredictable with confidence.

Team spiritTeam spirit

We work in small, focused teams – often across borders and jurisdictions – acting seamlessly for clients. You must be happy pitching in, helping out and doing your share to promote our collective success.

ResilienceResilience

Rigorous attention to detail won't faze you. Nor will the pressure of complexity, deadlines or putting in the extra hours to deliver the most professional job possible.

Mental agilityMental agility

The tried and tested isn't always the best. We challenge conventional thinking – pooling our expertise to do things differently from others and from what we've done before. You'll be able to look beyond the obvious.
