Department Description
The People team is responsible for all people management activities in the London office in relation to legal staff (including those seconded to clients and international offices), business support staff and PAs.
The Graduate Recruitment team forms part of the overarching People function of the Hogan Lovells global business, working alongside HR Advisory, People Development and Learning & Development. Graduate Recruitment sits within the Legal Resourcing function and works closely with the Legal and Business Services Recruitment and Trainee Development teams. The team is responsible for the firm's strategic aim of attracting and recruiting the best people across all practices and departments.
Role Overview
Each year the firm seeks to recruit up to 50 graduates to join the firm's trainee solicitor recruitment programme in London and Birmingham. The firm has a successful track-record of developing its trainee solicitors with over 50% of the London partners having joined the firm via this route. The recruitment market for the most talented graduates is highly competitive and the firm needs to work hard to define and differentiate itself from major competitors. Anyone joining the team needs to understand the strategic objectives of the firm and team and be prepared to represent the firm to the highest standards.
Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities
Graduate Recruitment
- Partner with the Senior Graduate Recruitment Manager to manage our graduate recruitment programmes including HL BaSE Gold & Silver, Vacation Schemes, First Year Schemes and Campus Ambassadors
- Lead the recruitment campaign and process for the trainees in our Birmingham office
- Responsible for successfully delivering the full life cycle of graduate recruitment, including the screening process, recruitment pipeline, and assessment days
- Support the Senior Graduate Recruitment Manager to ensure the pipeline for our programmes meets the firms D&I objectives
- Provide support to students as they progress through the application and assessment process
- Help guide the interview panel to support hiring decisions and to ensure best practice is maintained.
- Conduct situational judgement interviews
- Help to manage our external marketing agency
- In collaboration with the Senior Graduate Recruitment Manager, develop the strategy for target universities, milkround events, and campus activities to attract the best talent for our opportunities
- Manage the production and maintenance of our marketing materials including website, brochure, adverts and social media presence
- Drive graduate recruitment diversity events and programmes
- Ensure a current knowledge of the legal market and our competitors to influence our graduate offering
Operational Support
- Deliver regular updates on Graduate Recruitment and Marketing activities to key stakeholders
- Partner the Senior Graduate Recruitment Manager to review and assess our recruitment processes, to meet the objectives of the business and market changes
- Actively contribute to budget planning and management, ensuring all costs are kept within the budgeted spend
- Collating and contributing to award submissions
- Oversee the production and communication of graduate recruitment statistics and analysis, including diversity statistics
- Lead on ad hoc projects and initiatives within graduate recruitment and marketing
- Work collaboratively with, and support, the Graduate Recruitment team in the development of their knowledge and achieving the team’s objectives
- Specific duties or responsibilities may be reviewed from time to time to reflect changes in personnel and management structure, staff location or services.

Qualifications & Training
- Degree educated with several years’ experience gained in Graduate Recruitment
- Experience gained ideally in the legal or professional services sector
