About the role

We are looking for an enthusiastic Associate Data Engineer to join the Holland & Barrett Data Engineering team. We are seeking a talented Associate Data Engineer to join our dynamic team and help us drive innovation in the fields of Data Engineering, Data Warehousing, Data Science and Business Intelligence.

All our data services and platforms are hosted in AWS with a key focus on moving towards server-less technologies. We deploy our own platforms and services, extensively using IaC technologies. We work in collaboration with Data Science, Data warehouse and Product teams to build, deploy and support highly scalable, cost effective and reliable data platforms and services.

Key areas of engagement

  • You will be working on building, scaling and managing highly available, scalable Data integration solutions and Data services.
  • You will be part of the broader H&B Data & Analytics organisation, working alongside the Data Warehousing, BI, Data Science and Product Analytics teams.
  • You will be a key part of the team which owns the Data Lake and will be working on governing, managing and integrating various consumers and publishers to the data lake.
  • You will be building Cloud native systems hosted in AWS.
  • You will be working closely with Data Science team building Data Science platforms and applications.

You will have an opportunity to have exposure to the following tech stack:

  1. Docker, virtualisation and containerisation frame works
  2. IaC technologies : Terraform, AWS Cloud Formation, AWS SAM
  3. AWS Cloud Computing : AWS, S3, Athena, Glue, Lambda, Step Functions, EventBridge, EMR, EKS, AWS Batch, RDS, DynamoDB, Redshift
  4. Deploying, scaling, and overseeing production services on AWS infrastructure.
  5. Orchestration tools like Airflow
  6. CI/CD deployments, GitLab CI
  7. Serverless compute and event driven architectures
  8. Building data services
  9. Building monitoring and alerting platforms using Datadog or Cloudwatch

Skills and experience

  • Familiarity with any dynamically or statically typed language (Python, Java, Scala, Go, Rust, C, C++ etc).
  • Good understanding of data structure, algorithm and software engineering fundamentals.
  • Have good understanding of SQL.
  • Have familiarity with cloud native computing (AWS knowledge is nice-to-have).
  • Consistently demonstrates the ability to deliver functional and quality software.
  • Self driven - Able to drive tasks to completions keeping the team updated.
  • Able to communicate effectively in meetings.
  • You are active in learning new techniques and approaches which could support the projects you are working on.
  • Able to take operational ownership of the tasks that you work on.
  • Able to commit to agreed goals, work closely with a mentor and keep team updated on progress.
