The main function of the Trainee ABS Engineer position is to support the ABS Manager in deploying the location’s ABS (Continuous Improvement) programme. A flexible and responsive approach is essential, together with the ability to effectively problem solve and identify areas where improvements can be made to existing processes and methods.
As a Trainee ABS Engineer, you will be trained in developing the lean manufacturing techniques to help aid improvement activities. In addition, you will gain an in-depth knowledge of environmental, health and safety and quality procedures. You will also have the opportunity to further your education up to degree level. This will be sponsored by the company.
Specific responsibilities
- Development of knowledge of ABS & Continuous Improvement tools and techniques
- Assisting the ABS Manager with the organisation and facilitation of Kaizen events and ABS projects
- Developing and publishing minutes and action plans from Kaizen events
- Coordinating and analyzing performance data to support projects
- Supporting shopfloor standardization and improvement programme – Total Productive Maintenance, 5 S, Just-in-Time
- Liaising with Sister plants to support knowledge transfer and improvement initiatives
- Conducting regular audits to promote ABS culture
- Supporting the Global Alcoa Operational Excellence Audit programme
