Are you passionate about expanding your counselling and therapy skills while making a meaningful impact on individuals' well-being in Barnsley? The Umbrella service is seeking dedicated individuals to join our team as Honorary Counsellors and Therapists.
About us
The Umbrella service is committed to providing well-being and mental health support to individuals over the age of 18 in Barnsley. Our services address various mental health issues, offering counselling, well-being groups, and self-help sessions. Our primary goal is to empower individuals, fostering improved health, well-being, and independence, allowing them to have greater control over their lives.
We are also expanding our collaboration with Barnsley Recovery Steps to offer therapeutic and counselling support to clients working on alcohol and substance use as part of a comprehensive support package.
As an honorary counsellor you may be asked to work with clients spanning our different services.
Responsibilities
As an Honorary Counsellor or Therapist, you will have the opportunity to conduct one-to-one counselling sessions, working towards three clients per week and the potential to increase.
This hands-on experience will allow you to apply your learned skills, gain confidence, and contribute to individuals' progress toward improved well-being and mental health. We offer time limited interventions, between 8 and 12 sessions.
Qualifications
We welcome and encourage a variety of students from different backgrounds and modalities. We invite applications from students entering the last year or currently in the last year of Level 4 training and above, or those who are completing counselling or psychotherapy training leading to professional registration with recognized governing bodies such as BACP, UKCP, or HCPC.
Supervision
Our dedicated Lead Counsellor provides one-to-one clinical supervision every four weeks for up to 1.5 hours. This supervision is led by a BACP registered therapist, ensuring continuous professional development. Counsellors and therapists are welcome to seek external supervision if desired or needed.
Who are we
Humankind is one of England’s most successful home-grown charities. We provide free, confidential support for alcohol, drugs, housing, or mental health in friendly local places across the UK. We are committed to fair chances for all and making sure everyone can access the help and support they need to realise their potential.
By joining our teams of passionate individuals, you will be contributing to making this happen. You can really make a difference by believing in our service users and their ability to make positive changes when they don’t always believe in themselves.
We are incredibly proud of the work that we do to help address health inequalities in England. Every five minutes, an individual accesses one of our services, and we have supported over 90,000 people across all our services last year.
Humankind is an equal opportunities employer
We value unique perspectives and experiences that everyone can bring, and fully understand the strength in diversity and inclusion. We encourage applications from all backgrounds, regardless of race, gender, religion, gender identity, sexual orientation, national origin, or disability. If you have a genuine passion for working for us, we want to hear for you. We also welcome applications from people with lived experience with substance use.
