IG Group
London
Financial Services, Investment Banking & Asset Management

Accelerate your career with a world leader in financial trading and investments.

We are seeking passionate graduate developers to join us in developing award-winning trading platforms and tools, all crafted in-house. As the original founders of the industry, we have a responsibility to ensure our technology is modern, stable and secure in order to provide the best user experience.

As an IG Graduate Trainee, you will spend time in different teams across the business and learn about the full breadth of our products, including our native mobile trading apps, a low-latency web platform and the high-performance backend systems.

When you start at IG, we will work with you to build a tailored learning plan with placements that are best suited to your skills and interests. We also offer opportunities for people to build skills in other areas of the business, with placements in machine learning, security and DevOps.

You will work at the heart of our business, helping to ensure the continuing high performance of our core trading systems. You will contribute to a range of creative projects encompassing the full breadth of modern software engineering.

Our Graduate Trainee Programme

  • Lasts 18 months: three 5-month placements, and three additional 1-month placements
  • Involves placements working alongside our expert developers
  • Includes shorter placements in related areas, designed to give you an in-depth overview of IG

As a trainee you will get

  • Hands on experience
  • Formal training sessions on software craftsmanship
  • Opportunities for professional and personal development
  • Support to transition from trainee to fully-fledged Developer and to help you in making the best of your career with us
  • A buddy to give informal advice about the culture at IG and help you settle in

Keen to apply?

  • You should have or be about to complete a degree, ideally in Computer Science or Engineering. However, we also consider other STEM subjects, if you can demonstrate your programming knowledge.
  • You are passionate about IT, possibly have some prior real-world experience and are keen to learn and apply new technologies in a dynamic business environment.

Working at IG

Recognised as one of Britain’s top employers, IG is an established FTSE 250 member that provides trading in financial derivatives such as CFDs, financial spread betting and stockbroking to retail traders. Technology is at the core of our business as we rapidly expand our global footprint.

Our success had come from empowering our people to be brave, innovative and inspiring. Join us, and you’ll find the perfect place to showcase your talents and passion. Your achievements will be recognised and you’ll have the support of a collaborative global team.

We work at the cutting edge of technology with our dynamic IT teams in London, Bangalore and Krakow. Join IG and you’ll be joining the best in an always-moving industry. We’re constantly improving our systems, while experimenting with machine learning approaches, such as predictive analytics and NLP.

By thinking creatively and never settling for “good enough”, we’ve continued to lead the way in retail trading and investments. If you share our forward-thinking ethos you’ll find plenty of opportunities to grow here.

You’ll work and socialise with like-minded people with opportunities to join employee networks, teams and make use of IG’s charity fund. As part of an inclusive culture, your views will be championed and our organisational structure makes senior management visible and accessible.

Career Opportunities

Not just anyone can help us maintain our industry leadership. We work in a fast-paced environment, and we’ll expect the best from you. You’ll be tenacious, curious, eager and open-minded. In return, you’ll be recognised for work with a visible effect on the business and offered clear paths to progress.

You’ll have great opportunities to learn and expand your skill set, with the flexibility to develop using software tools of your choice on our high-spec hardware, including: Java 8, Spring Framework, Clojure, Tomcat RESTful services, C++, Oracle RAC, C++, Swift, Kotlin, HTML5, JavaScript, Scala, Python, Kafka, ActiveMQ, MongoDB, Oracle RDMS, OBIEE, Tableau, AWS and Hadoop Big Data.

On top of technical skills, you’ll have a chance to further your professional and personal development (communication, presentation, prioritization, career development).

Our work and office culture

We support a ‘hybrid’ way of working that is neither fully office-based nor fully remote, and will provide you with a high-spec PC or MacBook with all of the tools provided for you to work both at home or in the office.

Please note that we do not offer fully remote working.

We expect the majority of people to spend two days a week in the office; depending on your role, working requirements and business needs this may vary. We are happy to answer any questions you have during the application process.

Our Process

After submitting your application using our online tool we will be in touch if we would like you to complete an online coding test.

If you are successful, we will contact you to arrange a phone interview to find out more about you, your studies and why you want to work at IG.

After this step, we will be in touch if we would like to invite you to one of our Discovery days.

This will be an opportunity for you to meet graduates currently on the scheme and ask questions to the teams you would be working with. These are as much about you learning all you can about IG and the role as us assessing your fit.

Please make the most of all your interactions with us to find out as much as you can about the company and the position available and reach out if you have any questions.
