Financial Risk Analytics is part of the IHS Markit group and provides industry leading risk analytics solutions to sell side institutions within the financial markets. Risk management and risk regulation is continuously driving demand for more accurate calculations and risk system vendors are continuously striving for improvements in performance and scalability. The product is carefully architected to scale from running on a single laptop for demonstration purposes right through to running on 1,000 core distributed grids. Financial Risk Analytics provides solutions for Credit Risk PFE, Market Risk VaR and sensitivities, Credit Value Adjustment (CVA), Initial Margin (IM) and regulatory calculations.
Financial Risk Analytics is currently investing in their technology platform to develop several new revenue-generating products, leveraging open-source projects and big data technologies. These include new visualization, risk aggregation and smart data initiatives that address new data, risk, and regulatory requirements and are highly visible and strategic within the organization. These initiatives are using technologies such as Hadoop, Spark, HDFS, HBase, Apache Nifi, Apache Kafka, and Docker, along with in-house-developed technologies, on Windows and Linux operating systems.
What you'll do
As a Software Developer or Software Developer in Test intern with IHS Markit, you will be part of an agile team that is responsible for delivering timely, high-quality releases that delight our customers. You will work on a real business project, taking responsibility for daily tasks like those a permanent employee would perform. You will be involved in many aspects of the software development life cycle, including design, development, testing, deployment, and documentation.
You will have a programming background (mandatory), a strong interest in Quality (mandatory), desire to see the 'big picture' (ideal) and interest in finance (ideal) as you will work closely with your team members, other Agile development teams, financial engineers, and product development groups.
In all these roles, you will:
- Be an active and collaborative team member on an agile development team of 4-5 people
- Work closely with other developers, for example by pair programming and participating in code reviews
- Design, code and/or test enhancements
- Contribute to testing of user stories, features, and releases
- Troubleshoot and fix bugs
- Assist with deployment, infrastructure enhancements, and other dev ops tasks as needed
- Assist our customer facing support team in solving client issues, when necessary
- Contribute insights and suggestions as part of our continuous improvement
- Generally, pitch in wherever needed to help get a high-quality release out on time
Who you are
To be eligible for a Summer Internship, you will:
- Enrolled in a B.Sc. in software engineering, computer engineering, computer science, or equivalent
- Experience writing code in a high-level object-oriented programming language such as Java or C#
- Experience writing code in a high-level functional programming language such as Scala or Haskell
- Experience writing code in a script language such as JavaScript or Python
- Familiarity with object-oriented software design
- Familiarity with functional software design
- Familiarity with AWS and/or Azure cloud APIs
- Familiarity with Windows and Linux operating systems
- Experience with testing
- Familiarity with, or interest in, agile principles, values, and practices
- Interest in learning new technologies
