    The role

    This role is a 12-month internship starting in July 2022, finishing July 2023. Based at our offices in Granta Park, Cambridge. Our program focuses on meaningful project work, professional and personal development, in addition to providing networking opportunities.

    Your team

    The successful candidate will join the SBS Chemistry Tech team within the Advanced Science Department. The team uses biochemical assays in the form of enzyme kinetics and biomolecular interactions, as well as biophysical methods and all of Illumina sequencing platforms to inform the development of novel and improved solutions for Illumina’s sequencing technology.

    Role and responsibilities

    The post holder will be expected to show a keen interest in applying multiple methods to answer open questions. By initially shadowing a member of the team he/she will become familiar with these methods and eventually apply them independently but collaboratively within the project team. By the end of the internship, the post holder will be expected to be working independently, generate accurate reports and present their work to the team. This position will suit someone who is interested in understanding the ins and outs of sequencing technology and enjoys working in a dynamic environment while developing new skills.

    A routine day will include a mixture of:

    • Perform lab-bench based experiments – biochemical assays, running sequencers, etc.
    • Perform analysis of obtained datasets and discuss those with the team
    • Present data at your research group’s meetings, compile reports to management
    • Work in close collaboration with other members of R&D

    About you

    • Completed a MSc in Biochemistry, Biotechnology or related discipline, talented candidates who completed their BSc will be considered as well
    • Have experience in enzyme kinetics, protein-DNA interactions, or biophysical methods
    • Be detail-oriented with excellent hands-on laboratory and experimental skills
    • Have some basic data analysis skills, knowledge of a programming language would be a plus
    • Show a keen interest in understanding the biochemical processes of our technology
    • Be a team player with good communication skills

    The Selection Process

    • Submit application before 10th December 2021 to be considered

      • Shortlisted candidates must be available to interview 10th January 2022 onwards
    • Successful Applicants will be invited onsite to meet their teams April 11th, 2022 prior to starting in July 2022
