The role
This role is a 12-month internship starting in July 2022, finishing July 2023. Based at our offices in Granta Park, Cambridge. Our program focuses on meaningful project work, professional and personal development, in addition to providing networking opportunities.
The Genome Informatics group in the Research & Development organisation at Illumina is seeking a talented computational scientist to develop informatics tools and novel, insightful analyses that will transform population-scale genomics data into actionable clinical insights. Our team works closely with internal collaborators to develop secondary analysis methods that are accelerating discoveries and extending the clinical utility of whole genome DNA sequencing.
The intern will work on exciting projects leveraging the power of genome imputation to extend the clinical utility of whole genome DNA sequencing.
Role and responsibilities
- Develop a good understanding of Illumina’s sequencing technology and bioinformatics tools
- Analyse population-scale whole genome DNA sequencing data
- Improve or extend genome imputation methods
- Design experiments to demonstrate the benefits of new methods
- Written and spoken communication of results
About you
- Masters or PhD student in bioinformatics, genomics, statistics, data science or related areas
- Basic understanding of population genetics
- Comfortable with R, Python or similar computer language and working in a linux environment
- Previous classroom or practical experience with statistical or machine learning methods
- Familiarity with next generation sequencing data analysis is advantageous
The Selection Process

- Successful Applicants will be invited onsite to meet their teams April 11th, 2022 prior to starting in July 2022
