    The role

    This role is a 12-month internship staring in July 2022, finishing July 2023. Based at our offices in Granta Park, Cambridge. Our program focuses on meaningful project work, professional and personal development, in addition to providing networking opportunities.

    As a Biochemistry Intern in the Advanced Science department, you will be working at the cutting-edge of new biochemistry-based technologies at Illumina. You will help perform the early work on developing our future sequencing platforms, working with new reagents and prototype instruments.

    Role and responsibilities

    • Perform early integration work, helping put together new technologies in proof-of-concept testing for future sequencing platforms.
    • Participate in brainstorming sessions, suggest new innovative ideas and help implementing experiments to test the ideas.
    • Initially shadow and then work in collaboration with other team members.
    • Perform sequencing runs on a number of sequencing platforms, including standard and experimental systems
    • Perform analytical testing, including fluorescence-based assays, when needed.
    • By the end of the internship, you will be expected to be working fairly independently, generate accurate reports, and give presentations to the team and broader department.

    About you

    • Undergraduate or graduate in biochemistry or molecular biology (awarded or on track for a 2:1 or above) is preferred.
    • Strong problem solving, critical thinking, and logical reasoning skills are highly preferred.
    • Basic programming and analytical skills are desired, but not required.
    • Good communication skills.
    • An interest in science and new technologies.

    The Selection Process

    • Successful Applicants will be invited onsite to meet their teams April 11th, 2022 prior to starting in July 2022
