Semiconductor devices provide the foundations on which progress in the technology sector are enabled. From Smartphones to Artificial Intelligence, 5G communications to autonomous vehicles, all are made possible through advances in semiconductor processes. Scaling these processes requires sub-nanometer measurement of increasingly complex 3D structures to enable more powerful devices. At Infinitesima we have pioneered a revolutionary atomic precision 3D metrology technology which has been qualified by leading companies in the semiconductor industry and we believe is essential for continued progress. To quote Lord Kelvin, ‘If you can’t measure it you can’t improve it!’. Come and join our dynamic team to enable the semiconductors for tomorrow’s technological developments.
The opportunity
We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Junior Electronics Engineer to join our Engineering team, working as part of the team of engineers and scientists to drive the development of existing and next generation products. Key contribution to the product success is an accurate and stable electronic architecture.
The role requires working with the Electronics team to facilitate problem-solving to develop complex instrumentation consisting of a diverse range of technologies, including communications, networking, optics, electro-mechanics, control algorithms, motion control systems, precision mechanics, embedded software and vacuum systems. It will include (under guidance of Senior EE and Electronics Manager) analogue and mixed-signal circuit design, layout design, prototyping and prototype testing, and test jig development within a small multidisciplinary team.
This is an ideal role for somebody at the start of their career, who is looking to learn and grow their own skills.
Key responsibilities
- Support Electronics team in achieving Electronic solutions.
- Work hands-on with the equipment and apparatus to prove performance of the implemented designs
- Setup and build test systems and circuits, run tests, get results, analyse data and present/document.
- Under guidance of the team, design and build analogue and mixed-signal circuits.
- Work effectively and flexibly as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
Personal qualities
- Willingness to learn and grow with guidance from the team.
- Keen to put test systems/circuits together, get results, analyse data and document.
- Teamwork: Engages with other members of the company to bring the best solutions to the table.
- Support wider team in their tasks when critical to the company goals.
Education qualifications
- Either a BSc/BEng in Electronic Engineering or similar, or a clear growth path through engineering apprenticeship and design positions.
Professional skills abilities
Essential
- Hands on experience: Practical experience in circuit prototyping, lab work and testing
- Skills such as soldering, troubleshooting PCBs, creating prototype cable drawings and assemblies, etc.
- Being aware of using basic Electronics instruments such as Digital Multimeters, Power supplies and oscilloscopes
- Experience in university or work projects involving electronics systems
- Basic understanding of electrical/electronics circuit theory
- Basic understanding of electrical safety around lab work and testing.
Preferred
- Familiarity with Electronics Design, especially analogue design, around 16 bit high dynamic range.
- Knowledge of Signal processing and filtering techniques
- Knowledge of Control Theory, and its application in control loop systems
- Experience in PCB Design, specifically using Altium Designer
- Experience with tools such as LT Spice
- Exposure to EMI/EMC compliance testing
Benefits
In addition to a competitive salary and an annual bonus. Infinitesima offers flexible working hours, hybrid working, 25 days annual leave, death in service and private health care benefits, personal pension contributions of 4% with salary sacrifice and a generous EMI Share scheme.
