What you'll be doing
Your first three months will be an essential period for buildingthe knowledge and skills needed to thrive in the programme. During this time,you will:

The ShiftTrading Desk is responsible for trading, optimising and dispatching our2.8GW of gas-fired power stations in the GB energy market. Working a 24/7 shiftpattern, the shift trading team act in the continuous spot power and gascommodity markets and the Balancing Mechanism run by National Grid ESO tomanage real time supply and demand on the electricity system. This will allowyou to gain a real-life understanding of how to optimise generation assets aswell as practical experience of dispatching these assets and trading incommodity markets.
In your first 4-6 months you will be immersedin the action and work closely with our experienced Shift Traders, shadowingthe trading desk, learning by observing and gradually move through tosupervised execution this is hands-on, one-to-one training that allows you toprogress at your own speed and designed to build your confidence andcapability.
Once you're ready, youll step into the roleof Shift Trader, taking full responsibility for trading, pricing,and dispatching our physical assets. Youll be supported by a collaborativeteam of traders and analysts, with guidance from the Shift Trading Manager,whos available 24/7 to ensure youre set up for success.

You must be able to commit to a shiftpattern as part of the role, tosupport the 24/7 shift trading desk. This placement will also requiresuccessful candidates to be based in the Edinburgh office, rather thanremotely. This role has the added benefit of extended periods off in betweenshifts, providing a valuable opportunity to maintain a healthy balance betweenwork, learning, and personal life!
