About the role
The Financial Reporting Accountant will report directly into the Financial Reporting Manager and is based in our newly furbished office in Leeds city centre which has been designed as a collaborative space supporting hybrid working.
You will be responsible for consolidating financial information from across the Group and using this to prepare monthly management information and quarterly statutory information for external reporting purposes ensuring that all output is high quality, robust and in compliance with applicable accounting standards.
You will also lead the analysis of financial performance, particularly with regards to costs, and highlight opportunities to the business.
Key responsibilities are:
Group Management Accounts
- The preparation of consolidated Group management accounts and supporting KPI reporting to the board on a monthly basis
- Providing a robust review of monthly reporting submissions from overseas and UK based subsidiaries, including cost performance
External Reporting
- Owning the Group statutory P&L and Balance Sheet consolidation prepared on a monthly basis, along with supporting analysis
- The preparation of IFRS Group financial statements and working as part of the wider team (including investor relations and company secretarial) responsible for the overall publication of the financial statements and Annual Report
- The preparation of interim half year financial information and quarterly update statements for external reporting purposes
- Assisting the investor relations team in the preparation of analyst presentations and website publications
- Working with the Group tax team to agree the consolidated tax journals
Management Information
- Owning the cost reporting system and working with overseas finance teams to produce high quality cost reporting analysis, along with managing changes required to the system
- Supporting the analysis of revenue and impairment trends across the Group, providing support to market teams and highlighting potential areas of concern in performance
- Produce and present monthly Group cashflow and balance sheet reporting compared to budget to Group FC, Group Treasurer and CFO
Managing a team member
- Managing one direct report and providing leadership and development to this team member (Financial Reporting Assistant Accountant)
Supporting a number of stakeholders
- Assisting the Group treasury team to support funding requirements
- Providing assistance to subsidiary finance teams on technical accounting matters
- Providing support to Group and market FPA teams on budgets and rolling forecasts for cashflow and balance sheet
- Working with external auditors throughout the year to ensure appropriate accounting policies are being applied and delivering a clean audit opinion as a result
- Managing other internal and external stakeholders ensuring that output matches their requirements and expectation
Compliance & Standards
- Keeping up to date with key accounting developments ensuring they are appropriately disclosed in the Group financial statements
- Ensuring the Financial Reporting team’s compliance with the Group’s control framework
Skills and experience we’re looking for
- Professional Accountancy Qualification (CIMA, ACCA etc.)
- Educated to Degree Level
- Technical Accounting background desirable (IFRS9 – Revenue & Impairment)
- Excellent PC Skills (MS office), particularly in Excel and PowerPoint
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Highly numerate with attention to detail and strong analytical skills
- Excellent organisational and good prioritisation skills
- Shows initiative and is proactive
- Self-starter who will take ownership for their tasks and delivers on time
