Make a difference every day!

Invesco is driven by a pure focus on investment. It’s all we do. We focus on doing work that matters and being a firm that gives a voice to every employee. In fact, we make a promise to our clients and each other to create greater possibilities together. We’re looking for people who have fresh perspectives. Who can come together to share ideas, listen and challenge each other to achieve better solutions for our clients.

Your Team

Our Legal team plays an integral role as a strategic business partner to support Invesco’s objectives by ensuring the legal and ethical integrity of the firm. The team has four distinct areas of expertise:

  • Investments, which works alongside the fund managers, analysts and traders to help them understand, make and manage their investments;
  • Exchange Traded Funds (ETFs), which works closely with the wider ETF team on a variety of issues relating to the development, operation and distribution of ETF products;
  • Distribution and Product Management, which supports all aspects of the Invesco product range, including product launches and the distribution of products across the region; and
  • Corporate and Commercial, which handles the commercial contracts relating to Invesco’s corporate activities, including outsourcing agreements, procurement contracts, software licences and any other general contract law issues.

The Opportunity

Are you looking for an outstanding start to your legal career? Do you have an interest in the investment management industry? You’ll get to combine both of your interests by joining our legal traineeship programme! You’ll hone your legal skills by rotating across our four teams and can expect to be involved in a wide range of work to develop your legal knowledge within an asset management context and to achieve the SRA prescribed competencies for trainee solicitors. By way of some examples, you will have exposure to:

  • Working with investment teams to give the angle on commercial questions;
  • Negotiating and executing trading and investments documentation relating to the life-cycle of an investment;
  • Project managing more complex investments alongside the investment teams and support teams;
  • Drafting and coordinating FCA applications, as well as providing junior legal support for the UK product ranges;
  • Analysing and communicating regulatory change to different areas of the business;
  • Drafting and negotiating distribution agreements, platform agreements, terms of business, rebate agreements and fund link agreements;
  • Instructing and handling external counsel;
  • Drafting, reviewing and updating prospectuses, KIID documentation and other fund and service provider agreements relating to our ETF business; and
  • Drafting, negotiating and finalising a wide variety of commercial contracts.

There may also be an opportunity to do a secondment with one of our top tier partner law firms.

During your traineeship, you can expect a high level of responsibility, independent working and internal client contact within a supportive, employee-centric environment.

You’ll have the chance to use your outstanding relationship building skills to support internal clients and to formulate pragmatic and commercial solutions. If you have a keen interest in investment and finance, excellent written and interpersonal skills, with a credible and persuasive style, we'd love to hear from you.

Sound exciting? The traineeships are open to candidates who have a Qualifying Law degree, or Graduate Diploma in Law or other university degree (and GDL conversion course). You will either have completed your Legal Practice Course (LPC) or Solicitors’ Qualifying Examination (SQE Part 1 or Part 2), or will be willing to enrol to complete either of these qualifications part time during the training period.

How to Apply

Whilst a CV is important, we’d like to get to know you as more than just a name on a piece of paper. In addition to your CV, we’d like you to address a few questions that are important to us in a Word or PDF covering letter:

  • What interests you about a legal career within the investment management industry?
  • Introduce us to a topic you know about and tell us why it interests you.
  • Tell us about a particularly challenging situation you’ve faced (either personally or professionally), how you handled it and what you’ve learnt from this.
  • What has your work experience and/or education taught you so far about yourself and what you do/don’t enjoy?
  • What is your proudest achievement?

This is an opportunity for you to shine and to help us better understand more about you and your motivations. Unfortunately, we will not be able to consider your application without this submission.

Applications close on Sunday 14th November 2021 and the successful candidates will start with us in March 2022.
