This R&D centre has been designed to encourage innovation and foster collaboration. It is home to our technological platform for botulinum toxins and is a pioneering research and development organization with unique experience in recombinant botulinum toxin technology.

    The Biologics Pharmaceutical Development team at Ipsen Wrexham is now looking for an Industrial Placement Student to join our team in summer 2022 for 12 months to complete activities focused on developing automated and high throughput workflows for process development and analytical activities. The role offers £20,000 as a base salary for the year and other employee benefits.

    Project Details

    The successful applicant will become part of a multidisciplinary team tasked with developing techniques for the characterisation of biological molecules.  During your time at Ipsen, you will gain valuable experience in laboratory work investigating protein structure/function relationships, using multiple biophysical characterisation techniques, such as; Circular Dichroism, fluorescence, DSC, chromatography and mass spectrometry.  Additionally, the successful candidate will be introduced to the principles of pharmaceutical development, including QbD and have the opportunity to develop skills in experimental design.

    As part of the opportunity, you’ll receive appropriate training, attend and contribute to team meetings, give presentations about your work, attend seminars and further develop your written and reporting skills in line with what is expected from an established R&D organisation.

    Qualifications & Experience

    You will need to be working towards a BSc or MSc degree in a related scientific subject which involves a level of understanding of the above topics and protein structure analysis methods (inc. higher order structure characterisation methods and mass spectrometry), as well as practical experience in lab book writing and general use of the lab. You will be proactive, motivated and be able to make observations, analyse data and interprets results. You will also have a strong desire to work within the field of biologics and biopharmaceuticals.
