About the role
Islington Council offers a wide range of high-quality apprenticeships. Or apprenticeships combine working in a great job, with training, development, and a competitive salary. You will be given dedicated time in your working week to focus on your studies. You will also have access to a network of colleagues from within the organisation and tutors to support your learning.
The Architect (Integrated Degree) Apprenticeship consists of a 4-year opportunity to learn and to provide support to the Islington Architects team. We are the in-house team of architects, landscape architects and urban designers and are responsible for many of Islington council’s new build and regeneration projects.
Your duties will include assisting the team to develop and produce architectural designs for our clients. You will gain an understanding of the work of the team and will work in a supported learning environment whilst working towards a nationally recognised Level 7Architect Apprenticeship.
What you'll need
To apply for this apprenticeship, you must:
- Be an Islington resident or
- Islington care leaver or
- Islington school leaver in the last 12 months or
- be connected to Islington through completion of studies in the last 2 years (at any level) at an Islington based educational institution
You will also need to satisfy the following course entry requirements:
- Not already be qualified to Part 2 and Part 3 in this apprenticeship subject.
- Not have extensive skills or experience in this apprenticeship subject.
- Pass the course entry tests for example in Maths and English
- Provide evidence of
- Part 1 RIBA accredited degree or equivalent as prescribed by the ARB
- Maths and English at GCSE Grade C/4 or Level 2 equivalent.
- Provide details of your portfolio of work.

Main duties of the job
You will join the Islington Architects team, the council’s award winning in-house architectural practice, and you will support them to deliver a range of architectural projects.
Working as an Architectural Apprentice for the Council you will:
- Generate design proposals using your knowledge of architectural issues.
- Work with our clients and develop expertise in leading projects.
- You will use your knowledge of planning and other relevant legal legislation
- Attend building construction inspection on site and comment on contractors’ work against architectural drawings.
- Work towards project budgets and develop an understanding of cost control.
