About the team
Jacobs is a leading service provider in Strategic Consulting across infrastructure and construction, delivering projects at all stages from organisational set up, initial studies, design through to construction and maintenance, across the UK and internationally. Our aim is to support our clients in the delivery of through-life value.
If successful, you will be a part of our Performance & Operational Excellence team: a diverse and capable group of management orientated consultants from a range of professional backgrounds. Our Performance & Operational Excellence team provides consultancy to high-profile clients and exciting projects as well as providing management consultancy internally across the entire Jacobs business. We have a focus on adopting best practice ways of working and driving continuous improvement wherever we work. We often support other lines of business, typically as part of larger project teams. Our work direct to clients continues to grow and we often work alongside our Strategic Consulting colleagues and external partners as blended, agile teams.
About the opportunity
This opportunity is for a 1-year placement in a team of Consultants seconded out to a major UK infrastructure project currently in the planning stage, with the possibility of occasionally supporting on other projects. As part of the project team, you will work closely with other Consultants and colleagues from other parts of the business to provide seamless client support. We operate a hybrid working model, the role will require occasional travel into the client’s office in London combined with working from home. On this project, you will be responsible for:
- Ownership of the Production Programme for selected work packages to ensure on-time delivery in line with project governance and assurance requirements.
- Reporting on the performance of the production process and escalating issues to Workstream Managers.
- Building strong working relationships and ensuring effective communication, even whilst working remotely, with technical experts, internal stakeholders and the Client.
- Working independently with minimal direction.
What you'll need
- Personal resilience and great organisational skills when managing the production of large work packages.
- Analytical thinking ability and problem-solving skills.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Advanced Microsoft Office skills, particularly Excel, Word and Teams.
- Strong presentation and communication skills.
- A mindset to constructively challenge the accepted norms and always seek a better way.
- Motivated and enthusiastic with a personal drive for high quality work, continuous improvement and the direct application of lessons learnt.
Ideally, here’s what you’ll also have:
- On track for a 2:1 Degree.
- Power Query, PowerApps, PowerBI, and Power Automate experience not required but would be beneficial.
- Awareness of Lean Production Management skills (Last Planner System, Collaborative Planning, Visual Management, etc) would also be beneficial.
- Awareness of lean Start-up approach, agile or SCRUM
