    The Investment Risk team is a front office market risk function, supporting the portfolio managers in ensuring the fund risk profile reflects the investors’ expectations. The primary objective of the team is to help the fund managers meet their objectives and improve their risk return profiles. In addition, the team plays an integral role in the seed fund lifecycle, actively managing seed capital hedging for selected Janus Henderson funds.

    The team employs an array of tools to enhance and assess risk metrics, allowing us to delve deep into portfolio risks not captured by standard risk models. This includes model development, ad hoc analysis, and creation of custom analytical tools that are used by our team and the fund managers.

    The team sits close to the fund managers, with the purpose of maximising the benefits of communication/interaction on an ongoing basis. There are strong formal oversight and escalation mechanisms in place, with regular risk meetings with fund managers chaired by senior investment and risk personnel. There is also a monthly Investment Performance and Risk Committee attended by senior investment and risk personnel.

    You will support the Risk Manager in ensuring the fund risk profile reflect client expectations and to support the fund managers in continuously improving the risk / return profile delivered to investors. This will include but is not limited to identification of visible and hidden risks in the portfolios covered, escalation and resolution of issues when identified, support and assistance in continuous improvement of our risk system.

    • Contribute to the enhancement of the risk system by defining specifications for various instruments, verifying analytics, and identifying discrepancies. Collaborate with Portfolio Solutions, IT, and system providers while maintaining comprehensive documentation
    • Design, create, and deliver risk analysis and reports for designated funds on both regular and ad hoc basis, proving data and insights to key stakeholders such as portfolio managers, senior management, distribution, and compliance
    • Work closely with the Risk Manager on all facets of investment risk, performance, and other relevant metrics to help manage the funds in the best interest of the client. Support the Risk Manager in coming up with different ways to slice up risk and performance or create new, insightful analysis on funds
    • Foster and maintain relationships between the Investment Risk team and other support teams within Janus Henderson
    • Produce ad hoc reports for the business, focused on risk issues prevailing in the markets
    • Respond to direct requests from the Fund Managers and proactively engage with them
    • Assist IT in creation and enhancement of systems and feeds, including researching data requirements, sourcing information, and testing risk outputs
    • Assist the team in suggesting new analytics that will be beneficial to Fund Managers and senior management in understanding investment risk
    • Escalate concerns and highlight the risk levels and risk drivers to senior management, including the Risk Manager and / or the Head of Investment Risk
    • Execute other tasks and duties as assigned, demonstrating flexibility and a willingness to contribute to the team’s overall success

    Must have skills

    • Educated to degree level or equivalent
    • High degree of numeracy and hold a quantitative mindset
    • Knowledge of the risk and return profiles of a variety of asset classes including Equity, Fixed Income and Alternatives
    • Knowledge of derivatives (types, valuation/pricing, risks)
    • Knowledge of risk models and concepts such as tracking error, VaR, and stress testing methodologies
    • Proficiency in Excel and Python, any knowledge of SQL would be very beneficial
    • Excellent attention to detail
    • Excellent written and oral communication skills: ability to communicate findings and recommendations to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
    • Ability to work collaboratively within a team and contribute to joint projects
    • Ability to plan and organise workload to perform both routine and ad hoc tasks
    • Ability to work closely and build relationship with both internal and external stakeholders
    • Demonstrate willingness to learn new tools and processes
    • Ability to quickly absorb new information, adapting to changing environments, and implement newly acquired skills in day-to-day responsibilities

    Nice to have skills

    • Some experience in analytical or risk management related area
    • Knowledge of MSCI RiskMetrics, Bloomberg, Barra or similar risk systems
    • CFA or other professional qualification
    • Experience in processing large datasets and working with cloud platforms would be an advantage but not essential.
    • Proven working experience in project management, as well as IT development
