Key Duties & Responsibilities
Janssen Research & Development as part of Johnson & Johnson's Family of Companies is recruiting for Statistics & Decision Sciences (SDS) Summer Intern to be supervised by Janssen staff based in our Beerse (BE), Leiden (NL), High Wycombe (GB), Prague (CZ), Neuss (DE) and Allschwil (CH) locations. Virtual internships may be needed according to public health governance and will be accommodated. SDS is part of an organization called Global development, within Janssen Research & Development.
Up to four summer internships are available for students working towards a PhD in Statistics, Biostatistics, or a similar field. Students will have the opportunity to work with practicing statisticians and to learn about statistical applications specific to the pharmaceutical industry. In turn, this project will contribute to the further professional development of the student and it will provide Janssen an opportunity to evaluate the student's potential for future employment.
In this role, students will be involved in supporting Research and Development in areas that range from Drug Discovery through to confirmatory clinical studies. This work may include data preparation, data exploration using graphical and analytical tools, statistical model building and analyses, report writing and preparation of publication drafts. To perform statistical analyses, writing of computer programs using popular packages and software applications will be employed. Other activities may include designing experiments, conducting simulations to evaluate optimal designs, and participation in methodological development.
Qualifications
- You are legally authorized to work permanently in the European Union or UK and not require sponsorship for employment visa status now or in the future.
- Be enrolled in an accredited European college/university pursuing the following degrees: PhD in Biostatistics, Statistics, or a related field. In exceptional cases, the students in final phase of their MSc. studies could be considered.
- Be available to work full-time for 10-12 weeks (may depend on country specific internship requirements) during period of 1st June till 30th September
- Proven abilities to communicate well and coordinate with mentors/supervisors are required. Original thinking and leadership skills will be appreciated.
- Proficiency in R is preferred.
- Proficiency in both written and spoken English is required.
- Candidates must be focused, highly organized and able to manage multiple tasks.
- Candidates must have the ability to work individually (independently) as well as on a team.
