As part of Johnson Matthey’s Hydrogen Technologies sector, JM has recently grown a new business unit called Water Electrolysis, which is dedicated to the production of catalyst coated membranes (CCMs) for the splitting of water to make clean, electrolytic hydrogen. The Water Electrolysis Research group at JMTC works on all aspects of the CCMs in support of the business unit and seeks to further our understanding of these devices in the areas of performance, durability, structure-property relationships and effective methods of manufacture.
The role is one of 3 internships opportunities in the group specialising in Catalyst Synthesis, Catalyst Layers & Electrochemistry. You should look to apply for the internship you feel fits most with your skillset as well as your interests. This position will run from Summer 2023 through to summer 2024

Your responsibilities
- Maintaining excellent EHS standards at all times
- Exploring the scientific literature to contribute ideas and suggestions for improvements to the project
- Making, characterising and evaluating catalyst materials or catalyst layers in one of our focus areas
- Writing reports and presentations
- Communicating results to the project team and other stakeholders
Requirements for the role
- Currently studying a degree in chemistry, materials science, physics or chemical engineering.
- Prior knowledge of water electrolysis (Desirable)
