    As part of our Hydrogen Technologies Business, Johnson Matthey Fuel Cells is a customer focussed, global entity dedicated to the supply of high-performance fuel cell catalysts and components.  The business, which is headquartered in Swindon, is a leader in its chosen markets with rapidly growing sales supported by its extensive R&D and manufacturing capabilities.

    We are therefore seeking a highly motivated Chemistry, Materials Science or Physics student to join our MEA Research team in our Hydrogen Fuel Cells facility in Swindon. This will be a 13 month placement to commence in the summer of 2022.

    In this placement you will gain experience working in a world class facility whilst receiving support for your own personal and professional development. Full training will be given to assist you in successfully undertaking your responsibilities.

    Role

    • During your placement, you will support the other members of the team by carrying out experiments to help understand MEA properties and determine manufacturing routes. You will need to work independently to complete experiments designed for you initially, but as the placement progresses you will be required to have more input into the planning of the experiments.
    • Key responsibilities:
    • Assist in the preparation of experiment samples for both mechanical and electrochemical testing.
    • Prepare samples for ex-situ characterization techniques, such as microcopy and tensile testing.
    • Assisting in interpreting experimental results and planning next stages.
    • Ensure all relevant safety rules are followed

    You will be

    • Studying for a degree in Physical Science (Chemistry) or relative discipline
    • Able to demonstrate experience of working safely in a laboratory
    • Able to demonstrate experience of working within a team on projects
    • An effective communicator with the ability to build successful working relationships
    • A Self-starter and demonstrate an ability to manage your own time effectively
