The role of this paralegal is to work alongside any of the fee-earners in the Public Law team with respect to any aspect of their caseload with which assistance is needed. Work may include assistance with judicial review litigation and large scale inquiry work, as well as information law, inquests and other public law matters.
Responsibilities
- Reviewing and managing large quantities of information for court and inquiry proceedings, including using electronic document management systems
- Preparation of documents for submission to court / inquiries
- Researching points of law and other factual issues, through the use of legal databases, textbooks and other appropriate sources
- General case administration and document management
- Attending meetings with clients, conferences with counsel and court appearances and taking detailed notes
- Dealing with new client enquiries by email and telephone
- Administrative tasks such as filing, scanning and photocopying
- Ad hoc duties as and when required.
What you'll need
Knowledge and Technical Ability
- Previous experience working as a paralegal/ legal assistant in judicial review litigation and / or public inquiries would be advantageous
- An interest in the areas of law undertaken by the Public Law team and knowledge of current issues relevant to the practice
- Experience of document management, including using electronic / online document management systems
- Ensures work is carried out to a high standard and presents information in a clear, logical and structured manner
- Experience of working within a very busy environment where deadlines areclearly defined
- Experience of completing legal research
- Ability to produce standard correspondence such as drafting letters and emails.
- Ability to draft legal documentation with good spelling, grammar and attention to detail

- Effectively prioritises work to ensure matters are progressed, meeting deadlines and providing updates to colleagues where necessary
- An understanding of the importance of good client care and able to communicate with them both verbally and in writing, in a professional, clear and straightforward manner
