Kirklees Council are advertising this role on behalf of The GEM Programme.
Are you ambitious, hard-working and passionate about making a difference to communities? If so, there are great opportunities to work, learn and grow with Kirklees Council. In addition to building your knowledge and skills on the job, you’ll be sponsored for a place on the award-winning GEM Programme, an innovative experiential development programme for the housing and built environment sectors.
The team
Kirklees Council has ambitious plans for housing development. The Housing Growth Team is responsible for delivering new homes across Kirklees by working with key partners, Council services, developers, and funders to unlock sites and build a mix of new homes including affordable, specialist and market housing, and promoting low carbon technologies and modern methods of construction. The driving force of the team is the huge satisfaction which comes from knowing that our work makes a tangible difference to our residents and businesses.
About the role
Working with multi-disciplinary teams of experienced and imaginative colleagues, including six graduates of the GEM programme, you’ll support projects and programmes of work related to housing growth. You’ll learn about sites, assessing housing need; the procurement of partners, and supporting them to secure planning permission. Typical projects include work on affordable and specialist housing, the repurposing of landmark and historic buildings, the delivery of large development sites and work to secure temporary accommodation for those in urgent housing need. You’ll work across a number of Council departments, with elected members and external partners, to deal with all facets of the housing development process. You’ll be supported, mentored and encouraged to step out of your comfort zone.
A place on the GEM Programme
The GEM Programme is an award-winning development programme which is nationally recognised for its outstanding work in building careers in housing.
During your time on the programme, you’ll be involved in inspiring developmental opportunities across a 12-month period and build extensive networks with other GEMs, sector leaders and those who make and influence policy at national level.
About you
You’ll have a degree (in any subject); be flexible with a positive can-do approach and have a real desire to learn and develop. You’ll have strong communication skills, including the ability to write clearly and concisely. You will enjoy building positive relationships, and have a basic understanding of the UK planning system and process of developing housing or other buildings
If this sounds like you, we’d love to hear from you.
