Road Logistics Graduate Programme Derby 2023

We are looking for three graduates to join Kuehne+Nagel on our Road Logistics Graduate Programme in September 2023. Two of you will join road logistics programme, whilst one will join our road logistics specialised networks programme. Are you able to think on your feet and great at talking to customers? Then this could be the programme for you. The programme is two years long, with a variety of rotational business placements, and you'll gain a professional qualification along the way.

Your Role

We're looking for our future leaders. Our Graduate Programme is a 2-year programme, where you'll rotate around your chosen business area. You'll get a professional development qualification relevant to your business area, as well as a mentor and buddy to help you through. You will also take part in fun and engaging development workshops with your Graduate cohort, learning skills for your future career at Kuehne+Nagel.

Your Responsibilities

Our Road Logistics graduate programme will give you the opportunity to explore a diverse division within KN, with over 5000 customers, a vast portfolio of products and hundreds of consignments a week across the UK and Europe.

Our placements are flexible depending on the guidance of your graduate mentor and the needs of the business, but all three Graduates will start off in Branch Sales. There you will understand the products available and how business is generated for the Road Logistics operation. It will provide an overview of the Freight Account Manager role and the type of accounts we deal with.
Throughout your programme, you will work with your Mentor and Programme Lead to define your next placements and make sure they are developing you into a future leader in the Road Logistics team.

As part of the Road Logistics programme you will undertake a number of short term placements in a variety of the road logistics including our operations, customs, Eurolink/Eurodirect and Central support teams to help you gain the overall fundamentals of road logistics and gain experience and skills in people management and leadership. You will also be able to understand the rules and regulations around the operations and support the team with current project work.

• The Specialised Network programme will involve doing three 4-month placements in different road logistics product area to gain a good understanding of road logistics and its different products. The product options would be:
• Aerospace and Defence - Overview: Direct contact for 3 of our strategic accounts within Road's A&D vertical. Day to day enquiries and an initial introduction to our services/ products/ systems. It will provide you with an overview from both a commercial and operational approach through the "life of a shipment" approach from quote, book through the delivery and from Domestic deliveries through to international and specialised solutions.
• Military and Government - Direct contact for multiple contracts across our strategic accounts within military & government vertical. Day to day enquiries and an initial introduction to our services/ products/ systems. It will provide you with an overview from both a commercial and operational approach through from initial enquiry/ frame work, through to technical response and specialised solutions and the reality of delivering on this.
• Healthcare - Within Specialised Networks we manage the transport of specialised goods such as pharmaceuticals, PPE, medication, controlled drugs both domestically and to/ from Europe. The purpose of this placement is to understand how this department operates and how they link with the main road logistics operations.
• Secure Chain - Within Specialised Networks we manage the transport of high value goods such as electronics, vapes and other highly pilferable goods both domestically and to/ from Europe. The purpose of this placement is to understand how this department operates and how they link with the main road logistics operations.

Both programmes will offer the opportunity for a 3 month International Placement and this is a great opportunity to experience a different culture and operation, build your network and to share/learn best practice approaches. You will not be able to choose which programme you are selected for if successful on getting on our road logistics graduate programme as this will be decided by the programme lead following the recruitment process

Your Skills and Experiences

• A 2:2 degree qualification, (achieved or expected) and 5 GCSEs Grade A-C including Maths & English
• Eligibility to work in the UK
• You must be able to relocate for placements
• A full UK driving licence (or will have one by September 2023)
• Access to your own transport is preferable, but negotiable dependent on placements
• Willingness to learn - we don't expect you to be a Logistics expert, but we're looking for our future leaders
