Supporting over 800 locations including our retail centres, warehouses and dealership sites is no small task. Our Technology department plays a key role in delivering a high quality service to ETEL’s customers 7 days a week. With positions in Architecture, Software Development, Project Management and Technology Operations, our Technology Team provides a complete end to end service to the ETEL business.

The role
Reporting to the Data Analytics Manager, the Junior Data Scientist is responsible for tackling complex problems across the organisation, through a combination of advanced analytics and asking the right questions.
Under the guidance of the Data Analytics Manager, the Junior Data Scientist will engage with every area of the company to translate business problems into data problems and prioritise those that deliver significant business value. They will be expected to clearly convey findings from their models and analyses back to the business to create action and change.
A key aspect of the Junior Data Scientist role is to forge productive collaborations and leverage opportunities to apply their innovative analytical, statistical and programming knowledge, thus enabling better decision-making across the enterprise.
The role is based in Letchworth. All members of the Technology team are “Remote Workers”, working in a hybrid capacity at home, the office or any other relevant location, depending on the needs of the business.
Key accountabilities
- Establish and maintain strong working relationships with stakeholders across the business.
- Develop existing models and implement novel solutions to improve our predictive analytics.
- Mine data to supply business stakeholders with crucial insights that support decision making.
- Identify key metrics that drive the long-term health of the business.
- Keep up to date with data analytics industry developments, best practices and policies.
- Ensure all our personal data is treated ethically by upholding compliance and security standards.
- Constantly challenge your own assumptions, as well as those of the business.
- Maintain objectivity to deliver analytic products with minimal bias
Skills and experience
- Self-motivated and proactive with exceptional problem-solving skills.
- Able to keep the customer front and centre of analytical decision making.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Extensive analytical experience, proficient in the use of R/Python and SQL.
- Rigorous understanding of the capabilities and limitations of datasets and analytical techniques; able to separate signal from noise.
- Familiarity with business intelligence tools (e.g. Tableau, Power BI etc.)
- Knowledge of version control and code auditing, collaboration, and documentation tools (e.g. bitbucket (git), Jira and containerisation (Docker)).
- Experience with cloud computing (e.g. AWS, Azure, Oracle etc.)
- Educated to degree level, preferably in a quantitative discipline. Alternatively, relevant job experience in a similar role will also be considered.
