Role overview

As part of the Estimating function, you will be working closely alongside and shadowing a more experienced estimator supporting in the development and preparation of total prime cost estimates for state-of-the-art projects across a variety of sectors (Projects | Laing O'Rourke (laingorourke.com)).

Whilst under supervision, the role will include working within bid teams, engaging and communicating with all members of a bid team across all functions, engaging with the client's team and the design consultants, reviewing design, technical and programme information, scope/package reviews, measurement and quantification, external supply chain engagement, the development of first principles cost estimates, carrying out tender comparisons and reconciliations, and internal company reporting.

Location

Roles will be based at either our Dartford office (South East), our Manchester office (North West) or at our Centre of Excellence for Modern Construction in Worksop, Nottinghamshire (East Midlands).

Degree subjects

Degrees in; Quantity Surveying, Quantity Surveying and Commercial Management, Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Engineering, Maths and similar, related subjects will all be considered for these roles.

Professional accreditation

Applicants should hold, be pursuing, or be keen to pursue, professional accreditation with the RICS, CIOB, ICE, CIBSE or similar.

Key deliverables and accountabilities

  • Assisting the estimating function,
  • Implementation of company and estimating functional practices,
  • Undertaking and supporting estimating duties including measurement and quantification, tender comparisons and reconciliations, development of first principles cost estimates, engaging with external consultants and supply chain,
  • Assisting with the preparation of internal reports,
  • Preparation, maintenance and filing of records,
  • Communicating clearly and confidently to a professional standard,
  • Preparing and maintaining spreadsheets,
  • The use of estimating software.

Entry requirements

We are looking for graduates who meet the following criteria:

  • Eligible to work in the UK with a valid work permit if applicable
  • Full mobility as you may be required to relocate for your role
  • Strong numeracy and literacy skills
  • A degree course with a clear route to professional accreditation
  • Your degree classification should be 2:2 or higher
