    Role overview

    This role is within the Global Technology & Innovation function within Laing O'Rourke. A Research & Development Engineer will work at the cutting edge of technology within the construction industry, developing and delivering a diverse portfolio of initiatives to materially improve our ability to systematically deliver certainty, safety & productivity. The individual will work with a variety of teams on various projects such as product-based building solutions, manufacturing, and process automation, all of which are aligned to the Group strategic direction to ensure short- and long-term competitiveness. There will be opportunity for rotation around the business, allowing the Graduate to develop a broad foundation of skills and knowledge.

    Key deliverables and accountabilities

    The candidate will have a variety of responsibilities subject to their expertise and preference, examples include:

    • Assisting Product Owners in the development, commercialisation, and rollout of new initiatives and products.
    • Assist in the technical development of new products from conception to market ready solutions.
    • Support in the formulation of the workplan and route to delivery for inflight products through design, procurement, manufacture and execution with the backing of the Project leader and Engineering leaders
    • Report back to the Product Owner with ongoing developments and challenges, with a view of appropriate resolution.
    • Support in value capture of deployed solutions to monitor effectiveness across our project construction sites.
    • Leverage data from across the business to produce coherent and comprehensive analysis and reports to support decision making by management with regards to investment, and business planning.
    • To liaise with teams across the business and identify cross-functional opportunities for knowledge sharing and deployment.
    • Assist in preparation of tenders and presentations for work winning and funding opportunities.
    • Visit client sites as and when required to review performance and develop relationships with the client and operations teams.
    • Scan the construction sector and cross-industry landscape for new, disruptive, and ground-breaking technology and innovation.
    • Monitor and report on competitor activity with regards to Research & Development.
    • Willingness to work additional hours outside the contracted hours as and when required.
    • Willingness to stay away from home as and when required.

    • Depending on your degree subject: MICE, MIET, MIMECHI, CMI, etc.

    Entry requirements

    We are looking for graduates who meet the following criteria:

    • Eligible to work in the UK with a valid work permit if applicable
    • Full mobility as you may be required to relocate/travel for your role
    • Strong numeracy and literacy skills
    • A degree course with a clear route to professional accreditation
    • Your degree classification should be 2:2 or higher
    • Entry degrees will be listed within each of our graduate vacancies and differ from role to role
