The Lake District has a rich and varied archaeological and built heritage including prehistoric and medieval landscapes, the extensive remains of past industries and distinctive settlement character and vernacular buildings.
We’re looking for a motivated and enthusiastic Graduate Assistant to take on a trainee role in one of England’s most spectacular landscapes and largest World Heritage Sites – The Lake District.
The role
The post is full-time, on a two-year fixed-term contract.
You will assist in the maintenance and enhancement of the Historic Environment Record, respond to enquiries and consultations, including agri-environment schemes, to assist with the running of our Archaeology Volunteer Network and support the work of the Lead Strategy Adviser: Historic Environment and Built Environment Adviser. You’ll be based at our recently refurbished offices, Wayfaring House in Kendal but we’re set up for hybrid working and can accommodate some working from home. You’ll be provided with a laptop to enable you to access our secure IT network when working remotely.
Training & development
You’ll receive professional training to develop a wide understanding of the archaeological and built heritage resource of the Lake District and how that resource is managed, conserved, and enhanced with partners and communities.
We will provide you with a trainee programme, and the opportunity for progression through the salary scale following completion of training objectives. You will attain the necessary experience to obtain PCIfA accreditation and we will support you with your application.
About you
We welcome applicants with an interest in British archaeology and/or the built heritage.
You’ll have a degree in Archaeology or a closely related subject (e.g. History, Ancient History) or equivalent experience.
Good written, communication and ICT skills are essential.
