Using data from 11 million exams sat annually across thousands of learning centres, you will apply your data science expertise to a variety of areas and datasets, such as analysing our communications with schools to understand the and improve our interactions, and simulating and inspecting exam malpractice cases.

You will be playing a large role in the advancement of education and assessment, using techniques from AI and data science to support operational delivery. As one of three data science specialists in a talented Analytics team of 20, you will be responsible for leading the strand of data science projects to improve business functioning, including scoping and delivery. The development of AI is a growing area of work within AQA, the department is expanding and this is a really exciting time to be a part of the team.
What will I be doing?
- partner with stakeholders around the business to provide analytical services that support business performance, series delivery, and AQA’s standards and research functions.
- work with colleagues across the business to utilise AQA’s data assets in novel ways to unlock the potential of our data
- produce customised analyses and provide insights for specific business needs
- design and develop data science projects intended to support and improve operational processes.
- apply and develop specialist knowledge of software, coding, technologies and techniques, including keeping abreast of developments in the data science industry

Need to know (to be successful in this role, you will need to know)
- Excellent understanding of a diverse range of mathematical and computational analysis techniques, statistics and reporting
- Understanding of data science concepts such as machine learning, natural language processing, and cluster analysis
- Experience of contributing to data science and/or analytics projects in a high stakes regulated environment
- Knowledge of coding including ideally experience in using Python, R, or other programming languages in contexts such as data mining, machine learning, or pattern recognition
- A broad understanding of databases, data structures and their interrogation including a willingness to acquire a detailed knowledge and understanding of AQA’s databases
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, able to build rapport with a diverse range of stakeholders
- Ability to understand stakeholder requirements and translate those into actionable tasks
- The ability to think analytically, to understand and synthesise complex, diverse and incomplete information and to present reasoned arguments
- Excellent general IT skills and the aptitude to learn new packages and processes
- The ability to interpret complex quantitative and qualitative information to support sound decision making
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
- Ability and willingness to constructively challenge the thinking of others
- Ability to think creatively and solve complex problems
- Ability to assess risk and recommend actions
