About us
We are Legal & General Affordable Homes (LGAH for short) and part of Legal & General, which invests its long-term capital into areas of society where there has been a shortage of investment and innovation, focusing on growth opportunities and scale ups. You might know Legal & General for pensions, mortgages or insurance – but we aim to also be the go-to affordable housing provider across the country too.
As a National for-profit Housing Association, we bring much needed investment to the social housing sector to increase the supply and delivery of affordable housing across England. We work to improve the quality and standards of the sector, as we believe everyone deserves an affordable, quality home to call their own.
The lack of affordable housing in England means there is a real need for our work which is why we’re on the hunt for people who can help us deliver our ambitions. We aspire to deliver 6,000 new affordable homes a year and we can’t wait for you to join us on our mission.
What you'll be doing
Our graduate programme is an exciting mix and perfect for an ambitious, self-starter – giving you insight into our business and the different teams that exist.
You will have the opportunity to take in all aspects of the organisation as you rotate around the main business areas in three 6-month placements, developing your professional network and your knowledge of us as a business, as well as the wider sector.
Development
The Development placement will give you an overview of everything that goes into the construction of a home, from identifying and purchasing land, through to designing and planning a scheme and finally managing construction on site. Following this, you will learn how we market and sell homes to customers, ensuring design and specification is to the high quality we expect.
Finance
The Finance placements have been designed to give you an understanding of how the Finance team is central to business operations. Your Charging rotation will give you a fundamental insight into asset securitisation (property charging), our ability to service our debt/loan obligations, the importance of the Asset & Liabilities Register from a regulatory perspective and how we use insurance policies to mitigate risks and financial loss. During your time with the Financial Reporting and Accounting team you will contribute to regular internal and external reporting through which you will gain a strong understanding of LGAH’s Balance Sheet and Profit & Loss Account. Your Investment Management rotation will teach you about LGAH’s Investment Strategy and Criteria and how to apply these when reviewing an investment proposal secured by our Development colleagues. This rotation will also introduce you to a variety of reports which are used to monitor and track business activity against business targets which are fundamental to informing business decisions and strategies.
Operations
The principles of your time in the Operations directorate will be to give you an overview of the management of our customers and homes, as well as a more in-depth experience of the role that we play within these functions.
The most exciting bit? Your last 6 months will see you specialise in a part of the business that you choose to really develop your skills and start your career in a team that you’re passionate about.
You may also wish to study towards a professional qualification e.g. RICS surveying qualifications, Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB), Chartered Institute of Housing (CIH), Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM) or an accounting qualification and we will always seek to support you with this.
Qualifications
