Would you relish the challenge of working for the policing unit that deals with some of the most serious, organised and violent criminals in the region?
The East Midlands Special Operations Unit (EMSOU) is offering an exciting opportunity for a Year in Industry (YII) placement to join us in our dynamic and fast-paced environment for a minimum of 10 months within the 2023/24 academic year. Please be aware, you must be in your final year of study within your degree and this is for a placement within the communications department.
EMSOU focuses on intelligence gathering and finding innovative ways to disrupt and investigate serious and organised crime, homicide and terrorism, on behalf of the five East Midlands police forces. We are also a national leader in the provision of forensic services for the region.
Our expertise and specialist capabilities are drawn upon by our five forces to tackle people, drugs and firearms trafficking, cyber crime, fraud and money laundering, prison corruption, murder and other serious assaults and violent extremism.
What we are looking for
We are looking for people with an inquisitive mind-set, a positive attitude to problem solving and learning new skills, and the ability to apply new knowledge and experience across a range of challenges. We are currently offering placements across technical, operational and support roles.
Due to the nature of our work, strict residency and security conditions must be met before an internship is granted. Candidates will need five years continuous residency in the UK and will be subject to vetting prior to a firm offer being made.
EMSOU is an inclusive employer and will consider flexible and home/hybrid working arrangements. Please know, however, that security conditions may mean that certain roles, duties or tasks cannot be undertaken remotely. Where it is supported, home working environments may be subject to an operational security assessment.
EMSOU has a strong security culture requiring adherence to strict protocols. Policing Professional Standards of Behaviour must be complied with. All EMSOU roles are subject to random drug and alcohol testing as part of our security regime.
Communications Department
As an EMSOU Communications intern you will be expected to work well as part of a small team. You will have strong writing skills, with the ability to adapt your work to suit the target audience, and be adept in the use of social media, particularly Twitter.
Ideally, although not essential, you will also have a basic understanding of media law, as well as some experience with digital cameras, and design and editing software, such as Microsoft Publisher, Adobe InDesign, Photoshop and Premiere Pro. Above all, you will be enthusiastic in our aim of sharing news in an engaging way with our workforce, our policing colleagues, and the general public.
