    The 6 month – 1 year Industrial Placement Programme

    Our Industrial Placement Programme is designed to offer you the opportunity to develop your knowledge and skills you require to become an engineering or business professional of the future. On our programme you will engage with challenging and exciting project work, and deliver innovative business or technical solutions as part of a team of subject matter experts. Throughout the programme you will receive coaching and support from your team to achieve your objectives as well as your personal development goals. You will gain a wide array of experience on your placement that you can apply to your academic studies and future career.

    What you will do

    Your role as a Mechanical Engineer- Industrial Placement will be to support the design and development of our world leading Electro-Optics, Communications and Information System Products under the guidance of experienced Mechanical Engineering Leads. You will be introduced to utilising state-of-the-art methods, technology and tools to explore all aspects of the development life cycle, including requirements analysis, design, implementation, test, build and product support. You will interface with customers (internal and external) on many factors within the design and liaise closely with Engineers from all other disciplines particularly Systems and Electronics. Mechanical Engineers generate models and assemblies using design tools such as PTC Creo, Siemens NX, IcePak and MatLab to drive the design of Products.

    A placement within Mechanical Engineering provides the support and environment necessary for learning and career development.

    Key responsibilities

    • To learn skills required to become a professional Mechanical Engineer.
    • Working to timescales and budgets.
    • Undertake day-to-day Engineering activities with some guidance and support.
    • Contribute to Engineering team decisions, and understand why such decisions are made and their relationship to project success criteria.
    • Explore new experiences and opportunities to learn within the Engineering environment.
    • Offer new/novel approaches and methods that you have developed within your time in academia.

    What we are looking for

    Mandatory

    Please note that in order to apply for this opportunity you must be eligible for UK Security Clearance. Normally this is to the level of Security Check (typically known as “SC”) for our business, which includes having a minimum of 5 years permanent residency in the UK, but may need to be to a higher level for this particular role due to the nature of the projects and or programmes that the role will be supporting.

    Qualifications

    All of our Industrial Placement roles require a minimum of a predicted 2:1 grade in a relevant degree discipline. For technical roles please note that our preferred degree disciplines include Physics, Mathematics, Engineering, or other STEM subject degrees.
