    The goal of the placement is to develop the knowledge and analytical skills of the intern so that they are able to contribute to solving real world, end customer problems as part of our ongoing engagements with a wide range of tier 1 global customers. During the placement, they will also gain valuable business insight and core consulting skills that will help them develop into a well-rounded team member.

    This paid industrial placement is suited to undergraduate students who wish to complete a year in industry (aka sandwich placement) after the second year of their degree.

    As a Data Scientist intern, you’ll have the opportunity to use global data from the largest real-time digital fraud detection platform to craft solutions for a range of customers. You’ll experience how to leverage real-time digital identity intelligence, analyzing billions of transactions per month for some of the largest companies operating in Financial Services, Insurance, and e-Commerce. These tools will allow you to attain a unique perspective of the Internet and every persona connected to it. You’ll work within a collaborative and supportive environment to grow your personal and problem solving skills and help deliver solutions that will go head-to-head against some of the most motivated attackers in the world to protect billions in revenue.

    Opportunities and Responsibilities

    • We will help you to establish, maintain, and tune customer risk models leveraging thousands of data points from the ThreatMetrix Digital Identity Network and data feds from our customers
    • We will introduce you into an analytical team’s processes and prepare you to become a regular contributor as part of the team delivering exciting solutions to our customers with immediate impact
    • We will help you build your core interpersonal and consulting skills required to present your results back to your peers and end customers
    • We will help you demonstrate and apply your knowledge in data and mathematics to solve complex and interesting real world problems

    During the placement you will begin to gain responsibility for

    • Leveraging large and complex data sources to help monitor, identify and flag fraud risk trends and support the development of solutions that detect them efficiently
    • Learning to use the core tools and software packages required to analyse the large and complex datasets provided by ThreatMetrix
    • Explaining complex patterns of behavior using data and machine learning in a simple manner, to non-technical audience
    • Demonstrate a professional and customer-centric persona when interacting directly with customers via phone, e-mail, and chat
    • Support and organize events which bring together ThreatMetrix users to learn about the latest developments in the cybercrime world

    We are looking for candidates who are

    • Data Programmers : You will need good programming skills in analytical packages to leverage our real time data platform (SQL, Python and R preferable);
    • Critical Thinkers: A keen eye for detail, accuracy and strong critical thinking skills with advanced judgment capability is needed;
    • Analytical problem solvers: Strong analytical and problem solving skills are required to solve the challenges facing our customers in an ever changing fraud and risk landscape - numerical degree required;
    • Enthusiastic Team Players: We are looking for a candidate who is comfortable working in a a collaborative and inclusive team environment.
    • Data evangalists: you will need to be passionate in using data and statistics to solve real world problems.
    • Interested in Cybercrime prevention– a desire to understand the latest cybercrime trends and attack methods is required to deliver meaningful and effective risk models

    • Be on track for a minimum 2.1 honours degree or equivalent (predicted or gained),
