    This role is for a Software Engineer to work as part of the RMS UK Engineering & Technology (E&T) Team on a variety of Defence, Commercial and Cyber programmes.

    The successful candidate will be required to undertake a variety of technical functions, including technical planning, system integration, verification and validation, and analysis. They will ensure the logical and systematic conversion of customer or product requirements into total systems solutions and work with technical, schedule and cost constraints.

    The Software Engineer will be integral to the successful performance of Lockheed Martin’s programmes in the UK; the candidate will be expected to develop and adhere to challenging schedules.

    Duties include

    • Design and develop Airborne Mission Systems, Tactical Mission Systems and ground- and air-based training systems.
    • Contribute to the team’s ability to provide creative technical solutions to customers’ business challenges.
    • Understand requirements and create appropriate software design and code, documented in adherence to relevant standards.
    • Employ suitable software modelling and development tools and techniques.
    • Provide estimates for tasks and contribute to the production of metrics to track progress.
    • Take software through the SDLC according to the relevant engineering processes.
    • Produce documentation for software such as User Guides, Design Documents and Coding Standards.
    • Work collaboratively with the team and with other engineering disciplines to meet cost and schedule targets.

    Required skills, qualifications and experience

    • Proven skills in software design and development using some of: Ada 95, Java (J2EE), C/C++, C#.
    • Experience in Real-Time Embedded Systems.
    • A desire to learn new technologies and find creative solutions to complex technical challenges.
    • Ability to create a collaborative team environment and facilitate communication of ideas in an inclusive environment.
    • Ability to work accurately from detailed Software Requirement Specifications and to be able to trace requirements coverage.
    • Ability to support testing and to resolve issues arising.
    • To investigate issues arising in the field or during testing and to provide solutions.
    • Clear and concise communication/presentation skills to influence change, including liaising with other disciplines to ensure a joined-up approach to project challenges.
    • Ability to develop software fulfilling requirements to optimise software for speed, memory constraints, maintainability etc.
    • Ability to work on multiple tasks simultaneously.

    Desired skills, qualifications and experience

    • Experience of Airborne Mission Systems, Training Systems, Postal or Cyber domains.
    • Experience and understanding of safety-critical systems and constraints.
    • Software development techniques e.g. design patterns.
    • Hibernate, Spring
    • Jenkins, Maven.
    • Safety standards e.g. DO-178.
    • Machine Learning, especially object detection/recognition.
    • VR/AR.
    • Agile practices especially Scrum.
