Lockheed Martin UK are hiring Engineering Graduates to join the Mechanical Engineering teams on programmes across the business, based in Ampthill, Bedfordshire.
All graduates hired within the 2022 cohort will be rotated through programmes over a 2 year period (approximately every 6 months), in order to provide as broad an exposure to the various programmes and also the various aspects of Engineering development lifecycle as possible.

The Mechanical Engineer Graduate will be responsible for tasks as assigned by the Lead Design Engineer, with duties including:
- Designing major components, or major portions of a functional system, or technically advanced prototypes.
- Developing or improving products and facilitating manufacturing operations.
- Researching, planning, designing and developing mechanical products and systems.
- Developing basic data preliminary layouts, sketches, and notes necessary to present design proposals.
- Investigating pertinent design factors such as ease of manufacture, availability of materials and equipment, interchangeability, strength-weight efficiency, and contractual specification requirements and cost.
- Coordinating with other organizations affected by design development.
- Producing layouts of assemblies and detailing parts of devices, mechanisms, structures, and products.
- Checking completed layouts and drawings for clarity, completeness, conformity to standards, procedures, specifications, and accuracy of calculations and dimensioning.
- Identifying design errors, omissions, and other deficiencies, and recommending revisions and/or improvements in design layout to responsible engineers or designers.
Candidates should have a strong desire to work in the Defence industry, specifically in the Armoured Fighting Vehicle (AFV), Mission Support (Ground Based air Defence) and Special Projects (Military Space) domains.
Required skills, qualifications and experience
- Degree in a STEM subject, preferably in Design, Mechanical, Automotive or Aerospace Engineering but all STEM degrees will be considered
- Good Communication skills
- Ability to work well in a team environment
- Good IT skills in a range of SW packages
- Ability to prioritise tasks and manage own time to meet program needs
- CAD experience
- Structural analysis experience
- Aerothermal knowledge or experience
