The successful candidate will join the business at an entry level and be provided with extensive specialist training and career development. This will be largely provided at a Royal Navy Base on the West Coast of Scotland and may include periods of detached duty in Bristol, Plymouth and the USA.  Thereafter, the successful candidate will be streamed into appropriate positions in the Strategic Weapon  Organisation (SWO), forming an integral part of the team responsible for the installation, commissioning, testing and providing test result analysis to validate the weapon system onboard the new class of submarine being constructed.

Required skills, qualifications and experience

This is an entry level role and we are looking for someone with a level 5 Apprenticeship, HND/HNC, Degree or equivalent industry experience in an Electro/Mechanical related discipline who is interested in working in a hands on technical engineering role. Desired skills, qualifications and experience

Skills that will be developed through specialist training:

  • Thorough knowledge of mechanical, electrical and computer based systems that constitute the weapon system that will be integrated onboard the new class of submarine.
  • Thorough knowledge of submarine systems and support equipment.
  • Thorough knowledge of submarine system documentation.
  • Thorough knowledge of Health and Safety and Safe Systems of Work.
  • Develop skills in the use of the bespoke IT systems utilised during the design, build, commissioning and testing of the weapon system.

You will consolidate and hone your engineering skills by:

Initially under supervision, forming part of a team that ensures commissioning and testing is accomplished in accordance with US/UK engineering standards, whilst ensuring that UK regulatory compliance is achieved.

  • Enhancing fault finding and defect rectification skills, to develop into an integral member of a high performing team that is able to identify engineering problems and provide real time resolution for issues that occur during conduct of testing and commissioning activities.
  • Assist qualified Engineers when liaising with internal and external stakeholders to ensure engineering issues are fully understood and the solutions are achievable within regulatory boundaries.
  • Refine your written communication attributes by providing support to qualified engineers to produce well written, articulate and concise technical reports during all phases of testing.
