We are currently looking to recruit a Scientist to join our Manufacturing, Science, and Technology (MSAT) Pilot team.

Role purpose

Working as part of a dedicated Pilot batch execution team the primary purpose is to execute the technical transfer of new or existing Upstream processes into pilot from both external and internal customers using a defined structured approach according to standard procedures. This role will give you the opportunity to develop hands on experience within biotech processes in a highly team focused, fast paced environment and would be suitable for candidates who thrive in a fast paced situation.

Please note: that this role will require 70% hands on laboratory work, and 30% desk based practical planning duties. Biological processes, while generally predictable, occasionally require flexibility in responding to events out of normal working hours, including at weekends.

Key accountabilities and duties

  • The role will be responsible for executing Pilot batches through operating equipment, while acquiring technical knowledge of USP operations and contributing to the planning of batch.
  • The role will effectively communicate with Process Development/R&D and the Manufacturing Science and Technology (MSAT) team prior to and throughout the batch execution to provide assurance of suitability to scale to cGMP manufacturing.
  • Following written process documentation and procedures prepared in collaboration with internal cross functional project team members to enable successful scale up to cGMP manufacturing. Responsible for the preparation of associated process descriptions, batch records and ordering raw materials for USP operations.
  • Responsible for working as part of a dedicated pilot execution team following defined processes to plan and manage daily tasks in operating plant equipment and associated analytical technologies. Will ensure relevant transfer documentation is written and followed daily such that projects meet the required deadlines/customer outcomes.
  • With support will develop knowledge to resolve routine process issues and identify trends in data reviews.
  • Responsible for collating and analyzing batch data for preparation of process summary reports for the customer, with support from Senior Pilot Scientists and MSAT Technology Transfer (TT) representatives
  • Responsible for writing and executing EHS protocols and improving pilot operations through on the job training and experience of pilot plant operations
  • Contributes to identifying and completing continuous improvement activities to reduce costs, increase yield and productivity for the area
  • Will begin developing key relationships with Process Development, R&D and MSAT TT peers to effectively communicate and understand project discussions and objectives

Qualifications/skills

  • Degree (required)*BSc/BEng Field of Study Biological science or biochemical engineering disciplines.
  • Knowledge of working within a manufacturing environment or a pilot laboratory preferred
  • Good interpersonal skills with ability to contribute within the team, proficiency in structured data analysis, report writing, protocols and SOPs
  • Good attention to detail to execute work flawlessly
  • Outstanding integrity, proven problem solver, interpersonal qualities, self-motivated and positive.
