    Job Summary:

    Markel Law LLP (Markel Law) is an independent SRA authorised and regulated legal business offering services to both insured and non-insured clients. We are expert in legal services and specialise in civil and employment disputes and regulatory law. Our legal advice line helps over 200,000 callers every year and our award winning Law Hub is used by thousands of businesses on a daily basis.

    Our clients and business partners comprise businesses, high net worth individuals, and associations across a broad spectrum of industries.
    We operate out of offices in Manchester, London and Croydon and employ over 60 specialist solicitors. Our legal teams guide, support, defend and protect clients through a wide range of key legal services.

    We are looking for an experienced legal administrator to join our Employment Disputes team. This is a specialist unit of (currently) ten lawyers and two support staff which focuses on fighting Employment Tribunal claims, generally on behalf of companies defending claims. The team is split across Manchester and Croydon, with this role being an office based role in Croydon.
    The work is fast moving and interesting, with high volumes of cases, and the successful candidate will receive full training in our internal practices and procedures.

    Duties and accountabilities

    The successful candidate will:

    • Act as administrative support for Markel Law’s Employment Disputes team, opening new matters on our case management system, monitoring and distributing incoming post and emails, and assisting with case preparation through generating physical or electronic bundles for Tribunal hearings
    • Ensuring all files are maintained within required standards and in line with relevant procedure
    • Be responsible for diary management, co-ordinate client appointments including liaising with new and existing clients
    • Communicate effectively with the team to ensure workloads are prioritised correctly and timescales provided where necessary
    • Assist with the completion of billing for the team
    • Be able to meet crucial deadlines and display key time management skills when complying with Court orders, filing and serving legal documents to legal representatives, the respondents and the Court
    • Gain excellent communication skills when arranging advocates meetings by liaising parties and Counsel through conference calls
    • Be able to work well under pressure when preparing bundles, diarising court dates, drafting letters and paginating documents for the Court and Counsel in readiness for upcoming hearings
    • Display the ability to be adaptable and independent when managing a large case load by regularly updating the department’s case management system and archiving finished cases

    Skills, knowledge and experience

    The successful candidate will:

    • Have experience of working within the legal sector
    • Demonstrate strong communication and organisational skills with an ability to prioritise workload
    • Have good IT skills, certainly with experience in using Microsoft Office 2010, and with experience of Partner for Windows being very beneficial also
    • Excellent data entry skills, including strong attention to detail and accuracy
    • Word processing and audio typing skills
    • Demonstrate first class client care and communication skills across all levels
    • Have high attention to detail and accurate case management skills.
    • Excellent written communication skills
    • Effective team player, demonstrate positive and co-operative interaction with team members
