    We’re looking for a Junior Product Technologist to join the Homeware Technical Services team here at our Knowsley Head Office. As a Junior Product Technologist, you'll support the Product Technologists, working closely with the Homeware buying teams to develop and update our products to ensure that product is for purpose and complies with all current legislation.

    Responsibilities

    • Support the team to maintain the quality of Homewares and Electrical products
    • Able to use all QA systems effectively
    • Adehering to quality standards and specifications to ensure that Matalan achieves the goal of delivering outstanding value to our customers.
    • Ensure product performance requirements are established and maintained through supplier education, testing and monitoring.
    • Keep up to date on necessary testing and legal labelling requirements as applicable so products comply with European/British Standards and all statutory instruments.
    • Resolve customer services/legal department/store and Trading Standards issue when they arise.
    • Agree manufacturing methods that are achievable in bulk production and result in a product that will perform to all requirements after purchase.
    • Apply the most appropriate method of communication with our global supplier base so they clearly understand Matalan’s requirements, showing initiative and creative thinking where necessary to solve problems.
    • Be commercially aware, show good risk analysis and understand the implications (to others and the business) of actions taken.
    • Keep detailed and accurate records of all communications in an orderly fashion within the data base.
    • Undertake supplier visits when possible to improve quality standards, build better working relationships and increase personal knowledge of manufacturing capabilities/developments.
    • Build positive and effective relationships with buying teams, DC’s, Merchandisers, Returns, Customer Services, Legal Department.

    About You

    • Graduate with a product technology degree at classification 2:1 or above
    • Good knowledge of the Homeware market
    • Commercially focused
    • Excellent interpersonal skills
    • Ability to communicate at all levels
    • Ability to work independently
    • Strong Microsoft Office knowledge and skills
