MBDA Missile Systems – Together. For the Future of Defence.

    The Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) department is like no other within MBDA! It is split between;

    • EMC Test Team - working hands on in our state of the art EMC Facility to simulate environments.
    • EMC Systems Team - highly skilled members that are embedded across all projects within MBDA to ensure good EMC practice & design.

We evaluate each products' performance throughout its entire life cycle. One team supporting projects to ensure accurate requirements are implemented, that designs are robust and that strategy is relevant. The other team then perform a formal test in the products intended electromagnetic environment at the EMC Laboratories in Bristol.

What is EMC? EMC addresses the unintentional generation, propagation and reception of electromagnetic energy that may cause undesirable effects in equipment. We also cover the effects of external environments such as Lightning strikes, Electrostatic discharge and RF transmitters.

    What's the Opportunity?

Hands-on testing of MBDA's missiles, subsystems and equipment in the accredited EMC Test Facility using our 3 anechoic and 2 reverberation chambers which will help build your core EMC knowledge. Receive support and training from our highly skilled EMC engineers whilst working across project hardware so that you can progress towards conducting tests independently.

Depending on your personal preference, you can then work within the EMC Systems team to understand the complexities of producing EMC requirements, aiding in design development and engaging with customers internal & externally.

This role will allow you to be involved within this technically challenging area of MBDA, at the end of the Graduate scheme you will move into a technically focused role within the EMC Test Facility or the EMC Systems Team (depending on preference).

Throughout the scheme you may also undertake other development work; previously ranged from microcontroller electronics development, mechanical constructions, software development to aid EMC testing and OPSENS technology advancement.

    What You'll Do

During your time on the Programme, you will

    • Work in a technical results-oriented function.
    • Benefit from working among experienced test and systems EMC engineers.
    • Benefit from specific formal and informal training that will aid your personal development.
    • Gain practical, hands-on experience with real hardware.
    • Work on a range of products across all MBDA projects, which could include missiles and weapon systems.
    • Potentially travel, to support EMC activities external to MBDA (integration support, other facilities).

    Entry Criteria, Salary and Benefits

Currently studying towards a minimum of 2.2 degree in in EMC / Electrical / Electronic Engineering, Applied Physics or a related field.

    • The role will really suit someone who is inquisitive and loves problem solving
    • basic knowledge of electrical circuit principals
    • Happy to carry out work alone (after being fully trained of course!).
    • A background understanding of RF would also be beneficial; you will have the opportunity to share any knowledge in your application, but will still be considered if you don't have it.
    • £30,000 starting salary plus £3,000 joining bonus
    • Pension Scheme
