You'll join our London office for eight weeks over the summer, working with our colleagues in McKinsey Digital and focused on product engineering.

McKinsey Digital brings together the best of McKinsey’s digital capabilities to help our clients use digital technology to transform their businesses. As part of this group, you’ll join a global team working on everything from IT modernization and strategy to agile, cloud, cybersecurity and digital transformation. You’ll typically work on projects across all industries and functions and will be fully integrated with the rest of our global firm. You’ll also work with colleagues from across McKinsey & Company to help our clients deliver breakthrough products, experiences and businesses, both on technology and non-technology topics.

Qualifications

  • Penultimate year in undergraduate computer science degree with expected graduation date of June 2022 or 2023; master's degree students with less than 2 years of work experience
  • Demonstrated outstanding academic performance and track record of tackling difficult problems in technology
  • Excellent programming skills in at least one modern programming language/framework such as Node.js, Ruby, C, C++, Python
  • Working knowledge of HTML/CSS and a modern frontend Javascript framework such as ReactJS, AngularJS, EmberJS, Vue.js; working knowledge of mobile application development (e.g. iOS, Android)
  • Working knowledge of SQL and one common database technology such as Postgres, MySQL, MongoDB
  • Knowledge of concepts such as pair programming, CI/CD, microservices and TDD is a plus
  • Real passion for development and a demonstrated appetite for continual learning
  • Record of community contributions (e.g. open source work, publishing/speaking on technical ideas) is a plus
  • Strong record of initiative-taking and leadership in a work setting and/or extracurricular activities
  • Interest in digital and business
  • Ability to work well in a team environment
  • Ability to communicate complex ideas effectively in English, both verbally and in writing

What You'll Do

You will focus on building innovative digital products and business that will offer you broad exposure to the product life cycle.

In this role, you will partner with an experienced lead engineer and work in teams of typically 10-20 clients, designers, developers and consultants. You will play an active part on our digital technology teams, with a focus on software creation. You will work as part of a software delivery team that use industry best practices to create high quality code at speed.

You will also join our foundations training program, Embark, to welcome you to McKinsey along with with your wider summer analyst cohort. You will additionally receive training on our firm's work in digital and analytics.

At the end of the summer, you may receive an offer to join us as a full-time technology analyst after completion of your degree.
