Purpose of Role

  • Part of the team that is responsible for the definition, development, and achievement of NVH targets for all McLaren Vehicles
  • Work with the Senior and Qualified NVH CAE Engineers in the building, maintaining and delivery of component, system and full vehicle NVH models
  • Participating in all internal and external NVH simulation work. Interaction with lead engineers within the CAE NVH team to communicate results and raise design change suggestions
  • Reporting directly to the Engineering Manager Body Validation and CAE NVH
  • Responsible for assisting the Senior and Qualified CAE NVH engineers in achieving the simulation and data analysis plan as well as having technical responsibility for delivering consistent results from the developed CAE NVH models

Principal Accountabilities

  • The engineer will be partially responsible for maintaining and analysing on the NVH models. Models will be used to study performance against targets relating to NVH targets. Studies will relate to design of new vehicle architecture and the development of current platforms.
  • The engineer will work alongside the Senior and Qualified NVH CAE engineers and assist them in quantifying the risk to programs when it comes to target achievements.
  • Work with external CAE partners to ensure that all CAE analysis conforms to company procedures, industry best practice and global regulations.
  • Responsible for NVH CAE model build and the development of simulation methodology with the relevant Senior Engineers.
  • Work to develop the most efficient engineering techniques and deliver maximum value to program, through an optimised modelling approach. Alongside supporting vehicle programs, the engineer should draw on team experience of best practice to help develop methods and improve group capabilities.
  • Aid the team in the correlation of NVH models at POC stages of the program

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • CAE NVH related University level project experience
  • Good understanding of sound and vibration analysis methods
  • Good understanding of single and multiple degree of freedom systems
  • Basic understanding of acoustic principles
  • Working knowledge of ANSA and/or Altair software tools
  • Experience in testing measurements and data postprocessing would be beneficial
  • Basic understanding of composite structures
  • Must have excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to operate within a team environment.
  • Ability to clearly and effectively communicate simulation results and corresponding design changes required
  • Good analytical, written and oral presentation skills
  • Mechanical or Automotive Engineering Degree 2:1 or above
