At McLaren Racing, we believe only by chasing performance in everything we do can we give ourselves the best chance of success. Performance on track and in the factory. Performance for our people, our business and our partners. It’s about more than winning. It’s about hitting the highest standards, and then raising the bar again.

    Purpose of the role

Right now, we’re looking for Operations Graduates to push us further and faster than ever on a 2-year rotational programme to tackle F1 racing’s biggest challenges.

Joining the team through the Operations Graduate Programme, your role will provide the opportunity to understand many aspects of the core production processes and what it takes to produce a modern Formula 1 car. With a hands-on approach to the build and upgrade programmes, the scheme is designed to prepare you for future leadership roles within Quality, Procurement, Project Management, Logistics and Manufacturing.

As a grad, we'll make sure you're supported and mentored where required by experienced members of the team, but also empowered to make decisions and add real value to our performance.

You're a problem solver, never hesitating to roll up your sleeves and get stuck in, using your initiative at every opportunity to deliver solutions and make processes leaner. You're self-motivated and a motivator, and you're the person that is always 10 steps ahead.

    About the scheme

In your first 2 years, you will have the opportunity to rotate through the following areas:

    Quality

Participation in Quality Control and Quality Engineering activities to support production and reduce non-conformities, gain an appreciation of modern inspection and Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) techniques with a hands-on approach.

Quality lays a foundation for strong reliability performance on track and you will be able to contribute via continuous improvement processes, quality reasoning and effective problem-solving techniques.

    Programme Management

You will gain an understanding of the McLaren project management process, including MSP plan creation, project and task codes, the make v’s buy process, creation of works orders using our Javelin ERP system, and how we manage WIP through the factory and with external suppliers. During this placement, you will build your knowledge of the manufacturing processes associated with the production of tooling and car components, both metallic and composite.

Initially assisting one of the Project Engineers, you will work within a project team, building your knowledge and capability with a view to owning a project (or projects) during the busy car build period. This is typically the launch bodywork required for car launch and initial testing. As part of this, you will be responsible for the tracking and reporting of your own portfolio of work from project creation through to delivery of components to Race Team Logistics.

    Procurement

Responsible for the procurement of all services, raw materials, products and designed components for the F1 team to the correct specification, the best value and normally in the shortest lead time possible. You’ll be proactively managing the supply chain and building relationships to ensure that we receive the best service and all projects are delivered on time.

    Manufacturing

In the manufacturing team, you’ll gain experience within, and an appreciation of, our full production and development facility encompassing a broad range of manufacturing technologies including Composite Laminating, Composite Assembly, Composite Machining, Additive Manufacturing (SLA, SLS, 3D Printing), Production Engineering, Metallic Machining, Painting and Product Branding. You’ll be fully involved in the creation of complex race car componentry from raw material, through component manufacture, to assembly, test and build.

You'll also gain invaluable insights and experience in Health & Safety, Race Logistics, and Production & Process Engineering.
