    Due to continuing growth and development of Merlin’s Midway attractions and brands (including Madame Tussauds, SEA LIFE, The Dungeons, LEGOLAND Discovery Centres and The Eye Brand) on a global scale, a rare and exciting position has arisen for a Health, Safety and Security Manager on a maternity cover basis from January to November 2023. This role is offered with flexible location across our key corporate sites in the UK or Midway Clusters within the UK and Europe.

    You will join our passionate and committed team to support the Midway Europe business goals by formulating and driving strategies in Health, Safety & Security (HSS). These strategies eliminate or minimise associated business risk, protecting guests, employees, and contractors, and ensure Merlin’s reputation in the marketplace. This will include supporting with the mobilisation of new Midway attractions across the globe.

    Responsible for driving continuous improvement and maintaining health, safety and security as core value of the overall business, you will provide expert advice, mentoring and support to Midway senior leadership and HSS teams in identifying and managing risk, implementing effective HSS policies, standards and programmes, and instigating and maintaining governance/reporting processes.

    About the Role

    • Drive HSS leadership, accountability, and competency through the operating groups.
    • Develops and maintains an effective HSS risk assessment strategy/culture and via an auditing programme ensures that all risks are sufficiently identified and controlled.
    • Ensure arrangements are in place that effectively recognise, evaluate, and control risks to Health, Safety, Security, and reputation.
    • Develop and deploy new and progressive HSS initiatives that seek to raise the bar in Protecting the Magic across Midway Attractions.
    • Develop and uphold effective and robust safety management regimes for facilities assets/maintenance and associated contractor activities.
    • Assist with forward looking capital planning and asset replacement programmes to ensure existing attraction infrastructure and facilities assets remain safe and fit for purpose.

    About You

    • A proven track record of leading an innovative and highly skilled HSS team within a specific business unit.
    • Experience and knowledge of best-in-class HSS practices and systems.
    • Experience of working in high-risk industries.
    • Strong ability to measure performance by developing, coaching & supporting HSS teams.
    • Highly developed interpersonal communications skills and cultural sensitivity.
    • Strong project & change management skills – able to implement changes which add value and benefit to Midway.
    • Business and commercial awareness – able to suggest and recommend alternative ways of operating which enhances Midway attractions.
    • Creative, keen to trial new concepts to put/keep Midway at the forefront of HSS.
    • Process and detail-orientated.
    • Determination to help deliver a first class HSS function.

    Required Qualifications

    • Graduate calibre with recognised H&S qualifications & memberships.
    • Chartered Member of IOSH, or similar in other relevant countries.
    • Significant experience in a similar senior leadership position(s).
    • Experience of driving HSS standards and performance across multi-territory operations.
    • Experience of direct and in-direct line management.
    • Able to undertake frequent international travel (short and long haul), sometimes at short notice and able to work during unusual times of the day when required.
