    We are looking for an exceptional Product Futures - Industrial Placement 2023 to help us make a difference to our planet.

    Our Product Futures - Industrial Placement 2023 will work a hybrid pattern of homeworking and typically two or three days per week in Exeter HQ with a salary of £20,048 in line with planned increase to National Living Wage from April 2023, plus amazing benefits

Whilst the placement is a temporary position until July 2024, there is potential for it to develop into an opportunity to join our Graduate programme after you finish your studies.

    Job Purpose

    This is an exciting opportunity to join the Met Office on a 12-month Year In Industry placement, developing your skills and knowledge and ensuring you gain the most value possible from your experience with us. You will have the opportunity to network with our cohort of Industrial Placement all over the Met Office and understand what career opportunities we can offer you after you graduate.

    What is the purpose of the Product Futures team?

    Our purpose is to ‘understand the future to initiate what matters’. What matters to the Met Office is enabling our customers - citizens, government and industry - make the best-informed decisions where the weather or climate forecast is a consideration. The accuracy of these decisions is not only life-critical but has an economic impact amounting to £billions per year.

    How do we meet that purpose?

    We all exist in an ever-evolving global and local landscape of changing and emerging priorities and opportunities - societal, political, technology, science and markets to name a few. We explore that landscape and collaborate with a range of external partner organisations, leaders in their own fields within that evolving landscape, identifying opportunities to combine forces for positive impacts.

    Consequently, our team requires a diverse and flexible range of skills, attributes and experience that enable us to understand and communicate with stakeholders across that landscape.

    What are our current focus areas?

    Areas that the successful candidate could be assigned to, with a particular focus on climate adaption and mitigation data-driven services, includes: Future of Mobility (AV), Agri-food, Energy, Transport, Health, Green Finance and Local Government.

    As our Product Futures - Industrial Placement 2023 , the key duties under direction from your line manager and support from your colleagues are:

    • Understanding the current and future customer and user landscape
    • Understanding how Met Office can deliver value within that landscape
    • Identifying internal and external stakeholders and developing appropriate relationships
    • Validating ideas and opportunities, both directly and via internal teams

    Essential Qualifications Skills Abilities

    In line with our values list above:

    • Studying for an undergraduate degree in a specialism such as computer science, technology, data science or marketing. (Expert by nature)
    • Strong communicator and relationship builder with an open mind.
    • Understanding of how the Met Office delivers value to government and industry. (Live and breathe it)
    • Organised and timely with a keen attention to detail.
