The Met Office is delighted to open our advertising for a number of progressive Industrial Placements, which will commence from July 2023 until July 2024.
We are looking for an exceptional Technology Industrial Placement 2023 to help us make a difference to our planet.
Our team operates a hybrid basis, we try and attend Exeter HQ 2 days a week, this is especially useful for those early in their careers to get support and maximum benefit from the role.
As our Technology Industrial Placement 2023 you will receive a salary of £20,048 in line with planned increase to National Living Wage from April 2023, plus amazing benefits.

Job Purpose
This is an exciting opportunity to join the Met Office on a 12-month Year In Industry placement, developing your skills and knowledge and ensuring you gain the most value possible from your experience with us.
You will have the opportunity to network with our cohort of Industrial Placement all over the Met Office and understand what career opportunities we can offer you after you graduate. As our Technology Industrial Placement 2023 , the key duties are:
- Working within an IT support team covering a range of technologies, not limited to but focused around Microsoft. Full lifecycle support, new technologies, supporting & IT security to end of life.
- Supporting users with a range of requests and incidents
- Working on projects to drive forward the infrastructure of the Met Office
- Training & development and a focus on how this can help your career
Essential Qualifications, Skills and Abilities
- Is studying for an undergraduate degree with a significant numeracy, science and/or IT element
- Better together – Evidence of working within effective and well-functioning teams in either work or an academic setting.
- Expert by nature – e.g. infrastructure experience such as hardware maintenance or networking or Possesses knowledge of at least one programming language or equivalent
- Live and breathe it – e.g. a keen interest in IT outside of your university experience, could be codding, mini projects, robotics, gaming & more
- An appreciation of customer needs and the importance of good customer service
