We’re looking for an exceptional Weather Observations - Industrial Placement 2024 to help us make a difference to our planet.
As our Weather Observations - Industrial Placement 2024 you will work a hybrid pattern and will be on site at Exeter HQ a minimum of four days per month. You can choose to work more frequently in our state-of-the-art office if you'd prefer.

As our Weather Observations - Industrial Placement 2024, your starting salary will be £25606.00.
Whilst this is a temporary position until July 2025, there is potential for it to develop into an opportunity to join our Graduate Development scheme once you complete your University studies.

Job Purpose
This is an exciting opportunity to join the Met Office on a 12-month Year In Industry placement, developing your skills and knowledge and ensuring you gain the most value possible from your experience with us. You will have the opportunity to network with our cohort of Industrial Placement all over the Met Office and understand what career opportunities we can offer you after you graduate.
As our Weather Observations - Industrial Placement 2024, your key responsibilities are:
- Developing your knowledge of upper air observing systems, e.g. radar and radiosonde.
- Monitoring the performance of upper air operational observing systems; investigating issues and carrying out root cause analysis, providing information to users.
- Supporting the team of Network Specialists in the effective running of the networks to ensure the delivery of operational services.
- Working as part of a team, contributing to tasks and projects that implement changes to our observing networks.
- Presenting regular progress reports on the work undertaken to colleagues, both verbally and in writing, and contributing to project and team meetings.
- Documenting the work undertaken and the key learning points to verify progress against agreed objectives.
Essential Qualifications, Skills & Abilities
- Studying for an undergraduate degree with a significant science or numeracy element that incorporates a placement year.
- Evidence of being Better Together, working well as a member of a multi-skilled team, capable of developing effective working relationships
- Proactive problem solver, able to analyse a technical problem and identify the root cause.
- Able to plan and organise work using own initiative, Keep Evolving by adapting to changing requirements.
- Effective communicator, comfortable communicating technical information to a range of stakeholders.
- Demonstrate being an Expert by Nature with proficiency in a high-level programming language such as Python.
