MI5 safeguards the UK against threats such as terrorism, espionage, cyber and sabotage. We investigate suspect individuals and organisations in the UK to obtain, collate, analyse and assess secret intelligence relating to these threats. Alongside our British Intelligence partners MI6 and GCHQ, we provide the UK government with the information they need to protect national security. At MI5 you’ll enjoy varied and rewarding work in a supportive and encouraging environment that puts the emphasis on teamwork.

    About the roles

Whether you’re an experienced manager or still working towards your professional qualifications, you’ll play a key role ensuring financial processes run smoothly within the intelligence community. You’ll build on your skills, and take advantage of tailored learning and development opportunities as we support you to get the best out of yourself, and us. In short, it’s a unique chance to use your finance skills for the thing that matters most – protecting people.

We currently have Financial Analyst/Officer, Accountant or Manager roles available across a number of different finance functions. In Financial Analysis, you’ll provide vital insights that meet business needs. In Strategic Finance, you’ll assist with financial planning and fiscal events. You could work in Financial Accounting and Reporting, where you’ll summarise, analyse and detail the agencies’ financial transactions. Or, there’s Financial Operations, where you’ll ensure we’re able to respond to ever-evolving business needs. Whichever area you choose, you’ll be part of a welcoming, supportive workplace committed to helping you fulfil your potential.

Depending on the role, we’ll look for different skills and experiences. Importantly, you’ll be someone who enjoys working in a team, solving problems, and thinking innovatively. You’ll build collaborative relationships and know how to negotiate with people at all levels. And of course, you’ll have a genuine passion for finance and talent for figures and spreadsheets.

In return for your hard work, we offer comprehensive training and development, including opportunities to gain professional qualifications. Due to the sensitive nature of these roles, you’ll be based in the office five days per week. However, we know how important a good work/life balance is, which is why we offer job share, compressed hours and part-time options where possible. We’re also proud to have dedicated support networks and to have achieved ‘Leader’ status as a Disability Confident employer.

If you’re ready to keep the UK safe while developing a truly meaningful career, we’ll value you.

At MI5 diversity and inclusion are critical to our mission. To protect the UK, we need a truly diverse workforce that reflects the society we serve. This includes diversity in every sense of the word: those with different backgrounds, ages, ethnicities, gender identities, sexual orientations, ways of thinking and those with disabilities or neurodivergent conditions. We therefore welcome and encourage applications from everyone, including those from groups that are under-represented in our workforce such as women, those from an ethnic minority background, people with disabilities and those from low socio-economic backgrounds.
